Carnets from Irish AA?

OK the circus has started.
I'm in Dublin & trying to get to get a Carnet to travel to Australia.
My 1st 2 phone calls to the Irish AA drew blanks: Answer no. 1. What's a Carnet?
Answer no. 2. I know what a Carnet is but you don't need one to go to Nepal.
Ahh well! Such is life!
No problem, thinks I, I'll apply to the Oz organisations, they know what is required.
Answer by e-mail: We know what's required but we only provide Carnets for Oz registered m/cycles.

HELP!!

Has anyone ever got a carnet from the Irish AA?? If not where do I go?
Do you have a person to contact?

Hi Faust, and welcome to the HUBB!

Assume the vehicle is registered in Ireland. It's possible you just haven't found the one person at the Irish AA who knows anything about this topic. There is usually only one in any Auto Association, as it is such a specialized service.

But if you don't have any luck with the Irish AA, try the RAC UK. Speak to Sue Collins at 01454 208000 ext 33837.

Let us know if this doesn't work.

Cheers, and good luck!

Susan

Try the ADAC in Munchen, Germany. Extremely efficient and helpful (and cheap!!)

Thanks TA but Adac is for German m/c's owned by German citizens only.
The Irish AA does NOT do carnets. The RAC will, but only for a UK m/c & because I am a foreigner (Oz) they want a rather large deposit. The only organisation that will reasonably do it is the Australian Rac but only on Oz reg m/c. I tried to import mine but it's very hard to negotiate a fair price for importing something when you are 15,000 km away!
IF I had known, I would have imported my own machine b4 I left. So, sorry guys, but I have been soundly defeated by iron clad offialdom this time. I may do the trip in reverse in '05 starting from Oz.
Take heed any Australians who want to come over to Europe & ride back!
Thank you all!

Faust,

Register your bike in UK. There are already discussion topics around here on how to do it.

BTW: I'm in possession of a printout of some internal ADAC blurb that has rates on it for foreign owned vehicles. But, I have heard that they no longer do it, so I'm not certain what the status is.

Don't give up too esaily! Good luck.
