hi
i was just looking in to the carnet and found out its 500% for going throw Asia. this is worrying. do you put the value of your bike or do they tell you how much its going to be?
if you do value it your self, how much less can you go with out getting in it noticed?
im looking to get a 90/91 BMW f650. what sort of value would i be looking to cover???????
thanks luke

iv been looking at the RAC's site but it does not tell you how much less you can put the value at or if they tell you what the value is of your bike.
so i guess i can value it my self.
can i put the value at £1000 even if its really £2000?

Well ........

Hi there,

I have been given plenty of advice for this, which essential boils down to you putting down the lowest reasonable price. But this price is for the base vehicle and does not include any mods what so ever. I have been told that for my 1992 Land Rover I could put down a price of £500.

Hope this helps

Hi,
I think that as long as you don't put down a stupidly low value, you'll be fine. Perhaps, ask a dealer what he'd give you for it and go with that.
Bear in mind that the people who issue the carnets are not stupid. They have heard of most of the bikes before and will know if you're taking the pi$$. That said, give them a ring and have a chat as they are reasonable people.

RAC People

I spoke with the people at the RAC UK over the phone earlier this year, they told me they wouldn't accept a quote lower than £1000 for any vehicle (originally I put down my XTZ for £500, I sent them the receipt).
They are friendly people though.
