Insurance Cover - Australia?

We are planning a 9 month tour of Aus. Dec 2012 on our UK registered BMW's.
Cannot find any Insurers who will provide fully comp. insurance for our bikes.

Have emailed most of the big Insurers including Swann, RAC, SGIO and BMW dealers but it seems no one is prepared to provide this cover as our bikes
are not Aus. registered or we do not hold Aus. Drivers Licences?

It appears we are stuck with CTP (compulsory third party only) from the Dept. of Infrastructure & Transport once our bikes are tested and Certified
with Roadworthiness.

We would like peace of mind with cover against theft or injury to ourselves
in the event of a mishap. Anyone have any ideas on this subject? :confused1:

Try contacting SUNCORP, they are one of the premium bike insurers and do a lot of things that others won't do, and are not super expensive.

Mind you I have been on the road for a while, so things may have changed

There is another company but the name escapes me, hopefully another Ozzy will chip in with the name, they do special insurance for classic cars and stuff, and of course bikes as well, they advertise in all the bike mags, but I am in Mongolia so have no access at this moment

Try Suncorp though

Cheers from UB

Insurance

The other mob that TravellingStrom is thinking about is Shannons. Car Insurance for car enthusiasts and owners of classic and vintage cars - Shannons They only do cars, bikes etc.

My experience with them was that they were not cheap when compared to Suncorp but they are exclusively for motoring enthusiest so may be able to help.

i live in Australia and ended up insuring with insuremyride.com.au - the bigger insurers were not overly in to the idea of insuring me, as I have criminal convictions (but for nice things)

i've never had to make a claim, so can't speak but how they are on that end of things, but what I read of other rider experiences online made me comfortable that they would pay up

they were willing to take the time to listen to what my convictions were for (all are for protest with greenpeace and similar organisations), and to agree that these weren't going to make me more likely to crash or scam them, whereas the big guys just gave me a flat 'no'. given that they were willing to listen to my situation and make it work, they may be able to help you out also

plus they are a lot cheaper than what i was quoted by other companies

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
