Question Driving licences UK national - Nepal to the UK

Hi,

I am planning on going to Nepal purchasing a Royal Enfield and riding it back to the UK.

I have some questions about licences for this trip.

I have learnt that a Internatoinal Driving permit is required to purchase and ride a motobike in Nepal.

In the UK is the only way to recieve a International driving permit by means of taking a driving test in a car then paying the fee for the Internationl driving permit ? - is there no way I can take a motocycle A1 for motocycles up to 33 bhp (of which the Enfield 500cc is hadily 33bhp). Then apply for a IDP ?

If I have to do a driving test in a car it seems somewhat a waste of a lot of money for driving around a motobike (allbeit good theory knowledge.).

Also if it is true that a car licence needs to be held in order for a IDP, does this mean I will have to fork out as well for a A1 licence - to ride back from Nepal in the UK ?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Happy travelling,

David.

Thank-you for your help. But I have learnt that riding from Nepal is still legal. However from India you are correct it is illegal.

Still with lots of searching on the website and on the web I havent been able to find anything about licences though.

If anyone can help futher please do !
