Carnet in Oz

Hello,

we will be travelling in Oz beginning next year and our carnet will run out in May. We intend to stay a bit longer though, but i've heard that Australian customs will not extend the carnet.
Is the only possibility to solve this to get a new carnet send to us and go to a customs office and close the first carnet and open (stamp) the new one??
And if so, does this cause any hassle?? Any idea which customs office is familiar with this procedure?

Thanks for your response

Contact the RAC for a replacement carnet and explain the situation. I think you just get a new carnet for OZ before the old one runs out.

Thanks,

Do you mean that I should get a new carnet from the RAC in UK before we get to OZ?
I know this is possible (we have our carnet from the ADAC in Germany by the way as this was a cheaper option than the RAC) but this is what I don't want to do as our carnet still valid for another 6 months.

I assume that the option I mentioned in my previous entry is possible but just want to be sure.

If anybody can confirm this possibility please let me know.

Thumbs up

OK then, contact carnetdepassages at adac dot de and explain. From what I understand extending a carnet is a last resort, if you find you need to stay longer once you are in the country. This involves the AA's of issuing and visited countries and lots of hassles. Probably better to get a replacement earlier. You will pay fees either way and the extension is only valid for 3 months and only for the country you are in, so you need a replacement before you leave, assuming that you do need a carnet after Oz. (Remember, carnet not needed for NZ.)

Do talk to the ADAC, I think they are pretty onto it. Worked without a hitch for me.
