carnet expiring, advice for Thailand & Malaysia needed

Hi HU gurus,

We are currently in India, soon to enter Nepal for 3 or 4 weeks, then fly bike to Thailand, then we have about 2 months to get to Malaysia where we would like to fly bike from KL to Darwin.

My question relates to my soon to expire Carnet. I either need to get it renewed at considerable cost, or try to do the rest of the trip to Aust without a valid Carnet. I will leave Nepal before Carnet expires.

I believe I can enter Thailand without a Carnet - True? But I may only get 1 month entry? Thats OK.

I believe I can enter Cambodia & Laos without Carnet - True?

Can I enter Malaysia and fly bike to Aust without a valid Carnet?

Any idea what will happen when re-entering Aust with my Aust registered bike but with an expired Carnet?

Too many questions I know, any answers and recent experienced would be appreciated.

Thanks
John

Hi,

mmmm well no responses? Maybe everyone is out riding rather than using the internet, or maybe I was too criptic in my questions.... Lets try again

Can anyone tell me if I can enter Thailand & Malaysia without a carnet, then fly my bike out of KL to Darwin also without carnet? I am Australian and bike is Aust registered.

Any info PLEASE,

Rode in those countries last year:

Thailand: No Carnet required

Lao: They stamped my carnet but I leared afterwards that they officially do not stamp it. Same in Cambodia, I believe.

Malaysia: They were actually keen to see the carnet.

Check gt-rider.com

Hope that helps a bit

Lars
