Carnet country list
 

I have just been issued a carnet by the NZ AA.
The indemnity was 200% I was told it was good for trans africa,

The countries included are
Boputhatswana
botswana
ciskei
egypt
kenya
lesotho
libya
malawi
namibia
senegal
swaziland

The AIT site shows

zimbabwe.

Query is this list seems shot to previous carnet I have had.

Does anyone have a current carnet and could they tell me the countries please

Forget the AIT site, it just shows all the countries where the carnet is used for some kind of vehicle, like trucks.

There is a comprehensive list on Wikipedia, just search.

Where did they dig out that ancient piece of paper? The Apartheid government (whites) of Souh Africa tried to ease the political pressure from the black opposition by declaring some areas as semi-independent states like Boputhatswana (inhabited by mainly Tswana people), Ciskei and Transkei (Xhosa people) etc. But whites were voted off in the beginning of the '90ties already and these pseudo states were naturally reintegrated into the Rep. of S.A. :-))

It is important to differentiate between ACCEPTING and REQUIRING a carnet de passages. From Wikipedia:

Countries where a CPD is accepted

In certain African countries, the CPD is not officially required, but is often used to facilitate temporary importation of a vehicle. Countries where the CPD may be used include: Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau,Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Countries that are known to require a CPD but there may be more that are not yet verified.

Kenya, Egypt, Senegal(for vehicles older than 5 years)], South Africa
All other countries have a mechanism for temporarily importing a vehicle. This document is often referred as Passavant, LaizzePasse or SalvoConducto. A small fee is often charged to obtain it, and it allows the vehicle to be imported and driven for up to 1 month. It replaces the Carnet in that country, and should be returned to the customs office upon leaving the country.
The only countries which do not issue passavants, and hence a carnet is required to enter are: Senegal and Egypt.
Update : From 2006 Senegal is easening the requirement for Carnet de Passage. It is only required in the North Border , and drivers usually get through without carnet by paying a variable amount of around 80 -100 Euros
in 2006 also , Egypt has now Its own carnet , available for those without a valid Carnet-De-Passage at the borders . It still requires a cash deposit (up to 2000 Euros) which is returned upon exit.

Thanks for the replies - it does help but I will reword the question.

Does anyone have a recently issued carnet, and if so what African countries were included on the cover.

The reason I ask the question is because I believe the issuer has made a mistake, I did query with the issure but the answer was "evasive"

From what I understand from the RAC, you request the countries that you want to appear on the carnet .... but then I may have misunderstood.
