canadian visas

Hi there, we are planning a trip from Alaska to Argentina on our GS 1150. We are both UK citizens. Have discovered that we need USA visa to do this, as we will have no proof that we intend to leave. I am getting no joy from the Canadian embassy as to whether this applies to Canada aswell. It seems not but they are not being specific. Has anyone had trouble at Canadian border without visa?

Seems a little bizarre.

The norm is for UK citizens to just arrive at the Alaska and Canadian borders and have no more problem than anyone else at either border - assuming of course you have your paperwork in order, and have valid passports with appropriate entry stamps, insurance and a few credit cards to show you're not just bums. Shaving that morning, clean clothes, smile, papers ready to hand, and generally looking presentable helps as usual at any border crossing!

Check further with the US embassy, and emphasize that you are on a tour and just visiting.

You shouldn't need visas.

Thanks for reply. I had e-mail conversation with US embassy and they said if we arrive in US with no onward ticket, either by air or land we would need visa. Seems unusual to us too but we'd rather be safe than sorry! Thinking of flying bike & us into Vancouver now. Wrote to Canadian HC with same question & enclosed s.a.e to return visa forms if we needed them. Got back form letter stating UK citizens don't need visas, but do need proof of funds & proof of onward travel eg; airline ticket. Assuming motorbike will be proof of onward travel!! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif Hope we are right.

The reality at most borders, despite any official word from the embassy, (who, sadly, usually have little or no clue as to the reality at the border), is that you need to NOT look like you're a bum with no visible means of support. A bike and a credit card or three or four is normally plenty of proof.

No guarantees of course, there is always the risk of getting the newbie at the post who sticks to the rules.

Good luck,
