California title change. Do you get the title on the same day

OK need to expedite a title change in California. If you go to AAA or the DMV with all the paperwork do they issue the new title on the spot or send it out via post?

Thanks in advance.

AAA has nothing to do with it.

No resident experience, but
Before Buying a Vehicle From Out of State—Be Sure You Can Register It in California (FFVR 29)
may get you started
(or dig/link elsewhere on the CAL DMV site)
or call one of the contact tel numbers if website is not complete/ clear

Title Question

I hope I have this right:

Assuming you purchased a bike from a private party - take the exisiting Title and Registration to the DMV. You will can get a new registration and tags on the same day. The new Title will mailed to you in about 2 weeks.

This can done at AAA is you are a member and if the local AAA has a DMV service.

If you purchased from a dealer, you will receive a temporary registration. Registration, tags and title will follow in about two weeks.

I hope this helps.

You can go into Mexico and south with the temp paperwork. At least the two guys who used my address did. I'm not sure how far they went, but they were going much further than that.

Thanks guys. As usual the info provided is very helpful.

I was a bit worried I would be in Chile with a bike I did not have a title for and unable to leave the country for weeks. (plus getting that puckering feeling when going past the roadside inspections)

I was in your position a little while ago and went to my local AAA. No, they cannot transfer out of state titles. Maybe in-state titles can be dealt with at the AAA. in anycase, i went to the dmv down the road and they promised to send a transferred title in 3 weeks or so.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
