hi there,

question 1:
are you living in the UK as residential or just as a tourist ?

answer 1:
if UK-residential and have some time to wait for the V5 returning from Swanse ! register the bike in your name 1st, insure it in the UK for as short as possible and you will get a green card as well but ask the agency for it may cost som extra £12 or so and ride it to Denmark swap the registration there, easy EU wide regulations read my article:

"No problem with a EU reg bike"
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...487#post162569
well Denmark used to take a extra TAX for imported vehicles in the past for vehicles up to 4Tones.... you may ask some Danish members on that issue... dono about bikes.... otherwise all EU nations should acsept the UK V5 form and a sales contract.

answer 2:
If you are residential in Denmark, just buy the bike, make a sales contract, take the V5 and any other papers you can get from the old owner, stuff the bike in to the back of a van, bring it home to Denmark and get it registered as usually and pin the yellow plate to your garage door.

question 2:
if you are going back to Island.... are you from there ?

well dono....

Hi

Yes I am from Icealnd and I am only tourist in UK when I ge there to buy the bike, I was thinging to drive the bike to danmark and storage the bike there or take the boat to Iceland

I can not register or insure the bike in Iceland I need to inport the bike then I can register it here and insure it,

so I was thinging if I register the bike but on my Iceland address in UK
and insure the bike = Knopftours

is this green card include insure so Ican drive the bike ?

Don't think that is possible... well part of the extra cost... you have to have a UK residential address in you name to do so, why not getting a simple "export registration plate" instead, like all the non-EU guys do ?
you would be insured for international use and can run around for at least one or two may even three month before you leaf the country.... in that case you could ride it up to Denmark and ship over to Iceland.

you would get all the paperwork you need to get the bike registered at home than later on, and the Iceland officials can't start bugging you.

I guess you can get it at any post offices that do registrations in the UK.
have a dig around at the DVLA web page and look for exporting vehicles to non-EU countries.... Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency that's "Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency" in Swansea, the official office in charge in the UK for all vehicle registrations they have a list of all post-reg-offices around the UK online if you need a place near where ever you get the bike.
you can download any form as a PDF file you need, so you can study and fill out the needed form in advanced.

well yes that what I was thinking about, if you get a "export plate", than any EU country you enter would be a transit country only, but you would have to get the bike out of the EU before the Export plate expires, I don't know about penalty fees, but you may loose your TAX deposit.

any way, hope I could help a bit.... good luck.

This is what i would do
make sure the bike has lots of mot left
plus road tax for time to get to dennmark
find some address you can use in the uk. then get the documents sent there ( how long you staying in uk)
you will need the documents to travel through france (probably elsewhere also)
you will need uk insurance also
then go to dennmark, and ask uk DVLA for an export certificate.
with that you can import the vehicle into denmark.
then you need to comply with danish legislation.

Buying 2nd hand bike in UK, exporting to NL

Hi there!

Hope you can help me out with some questions about buying a 2nd hand bike in the UK and getting it exported to NL.

I'm planning to buy a 2006-2009 BMW R1200GS Adventure in the UK around april 2010, and bring it back to my home country NL. I'm not sure if I will be buying the bike from a BMW dealer, or private person.

I would like to drive it back, because that will save me hiring a van and is more fun ofcourse! What extra costs are there to look out for (MOT, Roadtax, more...)? And is this easy to arrange? Planning is to arrive on a Thursday, back in NL on Sunday. There is not much time to hang around and sort out all kinds of paperwork, you see. But I do have friends in Glasgow, which means I have a post address. They are okay with receiving/posting mail for me.

Another point is insurance. In the case I can drive it back, do I have to obtain a UK or NL insurance? I rather go for a NL insurance, ofcourse.

In NL we have something as an "export license", which means you can drive your bike from NL to another country, license is valid for 7 days, I think. Does something like that exists in the UK aswell? That will sort it all out, I think...

Cheers for any reply.
Olijf
