Buy a bike in Brazil
 

I'm planning to go to Brazil and buy a bike there and then travel arrond south america.Anyone knows what kind of paperwork is needed yo do this? It's easy or it's better ship my bike from spain?

Just checking to see if you ever received any info on this? Seems that Argentina is pretty much impossible, so I am hoping to buy a bike here in Brazil if it can be worked out and would love to hear if you know of any way it can be done.

Hey Mike, I'm sorry for the late answer, I didn't realised...

Well at the end I buy a motorbike in Brasil, a little XR 250. It was good for me because all documents are made in a brasilian friend name; so I'm riding like a autorized driver with a notarial document. For Brasil, Chile, Bolivia and Argentina no problem at all at the borders or at the check points.

I think to have all the paper to your name you need a adress in Brasil where is supossed you live.

This works(at least in southamerica), 2 years traveling with this papers.
Just a document that say the "bike owner" let you drive anywhere, go to notary and legalize the signature...It's all...
The same document is needed when you rent a car in Chile and go to Argentina, for exemple.

Found out a other possibility.

A german guy in Ushuaia told me, that he owned the mororbike with a other person.

They fley the bike to south america and they both shared the bike. When ine person is ready with his trip, the other one take the bike and drive again.

I flew my KTM 950 adventure from Austria to Alaska for € 2.000,-.

Now I want to sell this bike in Brazil, because I am flying back to Austria at 18.4.

If someone want to buy my bike, I could write him in my austrian bike papers, then there are 2 owners. My permissio is named on my bike. If a other person would buy it, he could leave the country without any problems, because in the bike paper are the new owner.

Only the plate I could not bring back to Austria. But this problem is solveable.

So, many things are possible.

My experiences after 2 years of travelling in north, central and southamerica is, that only the paper and permissio date is important for the people on the border.

It seems to be more complicated to sell the bike to a local dealer or local privat person.

If someone know how it works in Brazil, please help me!!!

I wouldn't buy a bike in Brazil because you will pay 200% more than you would buying in the States or Europe! I would ship it there if I were you! For sending a motorcycle over through a container would be about US$500 and would take 3 to 4 months to arrive. Good luck

Hey, ta- How would that work?

I can't PM you as this is my first post but I am interested. I've been thinking about the "Trans America" thing for sometime and I've been wondering about the merits of starting in South America and riding home as opposed to vice versa.

Have you done a sale like this before? If I were to fly down and buy from you and just aim for the horizon, what would the paperwork be like? Lots of headaches? Would I be able to get across borders? Do you think I could coax the little one lunged beast over the Andes?! :scooter:
