Bulgaria vignette?
Hi all,

Does anyone know whether motorcycles need a vignette in Bulgaria or not??

I've tried googling and only found similar info to when I was entering Romania - a blank statement saying every vehicle needs a sticker. When I came to Romania the border people suggested I didnt need one which was true, but led to a nervy first couple of days here riding under radar stations wondering if I was accruing fines or not!

Thanks in advance for any advice

In 2009 when we went through Bulgaria we didn't have a vignette. In fact there were no signs to mention anything of the sort on the small border crossing with Greece. We were never stopped and nobody ever asked and we never received any fines... don't ask don't tell.

Bulgaria yes, Romania no. Get it at the border, costs about 4 euros. Was there a few months ago.

For 4 Euros I guess its not really an issue and probably worth taking as a souvenir

I'll check my touring pockets when I get home, I know I have a vignette from one of the two, I thought it was BG but it might have been RO

I've checked my receipts from the last trip - the vignette was in roman alphabet rather than cyrillic so it was for Romania - no Vignette for BG

I confirm the above information. Vignette for motorcycles is not needed in Romania.

All good advice, having just travelled through both Romania and Bulgaria without a visa for either, it seems all quite straightforward... bikes don't need one!

Last year, right after the Serbia-Bulgaria border, I approached the office where they sold the vignette, and after seeing I had a helmet in my hand, the Bulgarian officer at the window told me: "Have a good trip, you don't need a vignette, it's only for cars".
So, it's official!

No vignette, but tax, I think I paid €6 - don't know for how long that lasts.

Just traveled through both of them:

For Romania and Bulgaria you DONT need a vignette if riding a motorbike !! It's only for CARS !!

Correct, but for Bulgaria you need to pay tax... and after looking at it again; it's a "compulsory medical insurance" . Which is 11.64 lei for 7 days... I was longer than 7 days there....

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
