Brit a bike in Italy / Germany, whats needed?

I cant quite find this covered.

Looking to buy a bike in Germany / Italy, they are generally £500 for a great condition old XT600 / DR600 So I figured fly to Italy £25, £20 taxes meet the guy at the Airport, and ride it 1000 miles home... £20 for the ferry and then £100 for fuel. Give or take another £100 for drinks food and celebrating,

Total cost £765 ish. Thats cheaper and better than you can get bikes in the UKL at present.

I have looked into the UK side of importing and their little head aches, Redirect headlight and the to MSVA centre for test, registration and licensing, £100 ish again

The only issue being the Certificate of Conformity, but the bieks over 10 years old... so should by pass that somehow.

Still under a grand. with a great trip thrown in. So anyone able to help me out with whats needed at the buying end document-wise?

Specifically in:

A> Germany
Insurance
TUV... whatever that is

B> Italy

Arent we all Europeen now? WOuld really appreciate to hear from a hubber that has imported an older bike into the UK.

Cheers G
