BMW purchase in Germany, paperwork to bring back to the Stat
 

I travel often to Germany for business and have noticed that BMW bikes are relatively cheaper there than in the U.S. Since I am currently in the market for another bike, what I am hoping to do is purchase a new GS in Germany, break it in with a long tour through the Alps, and then have it shipped back to the U.S.

What is involved in registering a bike purchased overseas in the U.S. (examples: emissions certification, taxes, proof of ownership, etc.)? Any information or advice from others with similar experience bringing foreign bikes to the U.S. would be immensely appreciated.
