Bike Title Vrs Registration? Canadians?...

Hi, reading lots of forums and such for reserching our trip to tierra del fuego and back this fall, Here in alberta, canada, all I have is a registration, NO Title? I don't even know what a title is? For all the border crossings is the registration good enough, or is there something I need to get? thanks a lot? eric

Hey Flat,

In short, you are perfectly fine with what you have. Your registration papers prove ownership. In many places outside of Canada (i.e. US) they separate registration and title for various reasons. For example a US bike can have a bike registered to a private owner but the title (ownership) is in the name of the lender until the loan is paid off. Makes it harder to cross borders though. In your case, you just need your vehicle registration.

Nice trip, are you heading down and back or flying down to SA and riding back?

thanks mountian man

that was sort of what i figured, but you never know,

my riding partner cj is joining me here, in Edmonton, and if everything times out right we will leave for the trip after going to the HU meeting in Colorado at the end of august.

we plan on just blasting through the shortest part of Mexico, on the east coast, do a week or two of Spanish in xlea, guatemala, where i have studied several times in the past, and spending maybe a month or so reaching panama, and from there flying to columbia, and continuing on to tierra del feugo, for january or so. I really like to atacama desert in northern chile, and plan on spending a fair bit of time up there

the original plan was to leave the bikes in Argentina, fly back in febuary for 6 months or so and then return to ride agian and then figure out about gettng back, and probably flying.

Now we're just going to add another month to the trip and ride back up to columbia and fly back to any reasonable US destination.
the thinking being if all goes well, getting to TDF in the first place why the hell not just go back up to columbia, If we have problems, then getting back in febuary is all academic? so thats the plan for now, just working on bike prep and paper work until august and then "Vamos"

thanks again for the responce

Sounds like fun, a flexible plan is always good, the final details will work themselves out as the trip unfolds.
