bike registration necessary?

gidday people,
will i have to keep my bike registered when travelling through different countries?
also, will it be sufficient to register it in its country of origin or would i have to register it in any country i visit?

All countries expect some semblance of vehicle registration, especially first world countries, so yes you need to have a document that says your bike is currently registered.

You definitely do not have to register your vehicle in any country except your home country.

The problem is maintaining or renewing your registration if travelling for a long time. Some countries require the bike to be present at time of renewal, in other words in the country.

Check this "minor" detail out before you leave and try to organise something in advance.

If all else fails, remember (read between the lines here) that Botswana officials have no idea what Swiss motorcycle registration documents look like. The average USA police don't know what Canadian driver's licences look like - exactly - or what paper the registration documents are printed on. Or that registration is only one year not two. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Colour photocopies of documents are very useful in the event of loss for whatever reason.
