HELP! Carnetproblems for Enfield (India to Germany)

Hello,

right now I'm Delhi and just got a eMail from the German ADAC (issues Carnets). They told me that exporting a Enfield via Carnet from India to Germany is no longer possible????

I already bought the Enfield and also have a registration in my name (Adress in Delhi).

Can anyone be of assistance with this grave news? Is there an other way or any chance to bypass this "law" ...

hmmm, Not nice!!

Only a few weeks ago they told me that it was no problem. You could try to explain that you got the bike after they gave the go ahead, and therefor they sould make an exception. Otherwise I don't know any other company who will do this.
You could try without the carnet, but changes are very very slimm.
If I were you I would put some pressure the ADAC. brigitte werner told me (just a few weeks ago) that exporting was done all the time.

UPDATE from Brigitte: "we no longer issue the carnet de passages for people living outside Germany and for vehicles not registered in Germany. There were too many problems with customs formalities and refunding the guarantee."

If ADAC is no go, two other possibilities:

UK Automobile Association (AA) will issue a carnet for non-UK residents and non-UK vehicles, which is probably the most 'casual' of the auto associations that we're aware of!

You can't reach the carnet department via their website, but you can reach them at +44-1256-493753 or by E-Mail: internas@theaa.com. They can fax the application forms to you, but will require originals to be mailed back to them before issuing the carnet, so allow time for that.

Caveat is that the UK AA and RAC will no longer issue carnets for Pakistan or Egypt, so you will have to avoid those countries.

We also know the Dutch ANWB will issue carnets, but not sure if they require the bike and/or the driver to be Dutch.

"...I arranged a Carnet at the Dutch ANWB (AA). The Carnet is valid for a year but we can ask for another one just before the end of the first one. This will only cost us administration costs (NLG 265,- for a 25 page carnet) and the "guarantee-money" (NLG 4000,- for a Unimog 404 of 1963) will stay on their account." Maarten, I surmise from an earlier post of yours, that the Dutch carnet is more expensive than getting it through ADAC, but if that's Stefan's last hope, will they issue to a German with an Indian registered bike?

First of all: My friends @home managed it to get the CdP from the ADAC. They will send, alt least this is my last information (I can wait for this).

I'm sure that there will be problems for other India-Overlandes (trying to get out with a bullet) in the future:

INDIA – PURCHASE OF VEHICLES

According to Indian legislation, only those persons who reside in India – and are in possession of proof of their residence – are eligible to purchase and register vehicles in their name.

Foreigners are, however, permitted to purchase vehicles in India for direct exportation abroad through regular “Import Trade Control Policy”, but these vehicles may not be registered in India.

Any individuals who may have succeeded in the past in purchasing and registering motorcycles or other vehicles in India have done so illegally and may be held liable under Indian law.

Under no circumstances may a CPD be issued (outside of India) for a vehicle purchased in India or bearing Indian registration plates.

The issuing clubs are asked to bring this information to the attention of members travelling to India.
