Beating a dead horse...

I've searched and read and searched and read all throughout this site. And I can't seem to find a way to get inexpensive green card insurance.

I am an American with an American registered BMW. when I shipped it over, I was given green card insurance from Knopf Tours for 50€/month. It is from Arisa insurance and it cost 22€ for the purchaser. 125% markup.

I have been told that you can also get 22€/month green card insurance from ADAC. But when I emailed the contact from there twice, I was ignored twice. So I had a friend that speaks German call for me, and they told him that it was 515€ for 8months, well over the 50€/month I was getting from Knopf.

It's not a huge deal, but if I can get my next 8months of riding insurance for 176€ as opposed to 400€, I would like to.

So if anybody has any real ideas of what I can do, great. Otherwise I'll quit my whining and spend the extra few Euros and get the insurance the only way I know how.

Cheers.

'green card' being provided with insurance in Europe is becoming less common, and less european borders are that bothered about it anyway, have you tried getting insurance without the green card and just checking that it gives you european cover?

This is what I did and I cam across about 4 borders out of about 25 on one trip where I would have been coered if I had a green card but wasn't/ In each situation insurance can be bought at the border for a small fee - seemed to work out pretty cheap, I think Albania was about 7 Euros (prob. about the price of a rear axle on a donkey cart - the thing you are most likely to ride into!)

American insurance won't cover me overseas, so I need some kind of insurance option. Green card is the only option I know of available to someone in my situation.
