another carnet question

I know that a carnet is not required for Central and South America. However, i was wondering if having one would make the various border crossings any easier by simplifying the paperwork.
thanks
Marty

Marty,

just think what happens when you get your vehicle stamped in on the Carnet... and then because there is no procedure in place, no one will stamp it out...

North and South and Central America - Yes it makes it easier - in some countries - at most, they'll just toss it back at you, they don't use it at all. Mostly they put a stamp in your passport so you don't leave without the bike. An eminently sensible and simple procedure.

In those countries that WILL use it, yes it's a little easier - 20 minutes less and $5-10 less - more or less. NOT worth the aggro and expense of getting it in the first place.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
