And angain on Carnets

Can anyone provide a definitive list of countries where Carnets ARE mandatory in Asia, Australasia and Africa. Kat and I are overlanding through all these continents and so far I can find info on Iran, Pakistan, India and Oz and NZ. Really need full list in order to ensure Carnet covers our trip. Further, we are going for 2 years.....anyone any ideas how you can solve the red tape of carnets as they are only valid for 1 year? We hope to renew the carnet by re-applying when in Oz, by re-using the same guarantee. But obvioulsy to do would require the old carnet to be stamped out and sent back to the issuing country. Can you do this from a country that does not require carnets? Help

Cheers

Hi D&K

I recently found this site which lists all countries requiring or accepting carnet, but I have no way of knowing how up to date it is or whether it is accurate. Still, it might be useful as a starting point:

As for the carnet expiry, we had no difficulty having a new carnet sent to us in South Africa by the CAA. They sent it by DHL (which we paid for), and I think were okay with us sending back the old one AFTER it had been stamped out of South Africa.

Hope this helps.

Easiest procedure: Get a carnet valid for the whole of Asia and Oceania. Since Iran requires the highest deposit (120%), CAA will include all the other countries on the list at the same price.
