African visas for Canadians

any Canucks out there know abouot organizing visas for Africa. Which countries do we need them for? Can we get any in Canada before we leave?
Costs?
Does anybody have a list we could look at to see what we're up against?

Thank you for your time....keep yer knees in the breeze!

You can check here, as Canadians, you pretty much need one for all countries in Africa. Just sent away for my Nigerian one to go visit at Christmas.

Sudan

Hi,

We are travelling from North to South and the only visa that we wanted to obtain back in Canada was the Sudanese visa. We had read that it can take 4 weeks to get the visa in Cairo so we decided to apply before we left Canada. We thought we had given them plenty of time submitting our application to the consulate in Ottawa at the beginning of June. We hadn´t received them by our departure on July 5. Due to an accident when taking bikes out of cargo at the airport in Munich (check out Audrey and Ekkes Home Page) we´ve been in Bavaria for the last 2.5 months and we still don´t have the visa! We´ve been told that they will forward them to Cairo but haven´t heard anything for a few weeks now. We´ll see how it goes when we get there!

Everything else from Jordan to South Africa should be possible to obtain in the country before. At least that is what we´re planning on!

The Sudanese visa can be got in one day in Cairo. It´ll cost you at lest a cool $US100, but as far as I know that´s the easiest way. You will also need a "Letter of Recommendation" from your embassy, or someones embassy. It seems the Sudanese embassy are happy with any kind official letterhead, even if it says that you are not a citizen of that country. With a Canadian passport you should be OK to get visas the country before, unless you have an Isreali visa stamp or even a Egyptian exit stamp from the one crossing they have with Isreal.
Good Luck!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
