World Cup 2010 UK to SA anybody?

I was thinking about heading to SA for the world cup from the UK.
I can get the bike shipped but would rather ride.
Only trouble I'm not at all off road experienced apart from the odd green lane. I'm not really that fit or interested in total off roading but can handle gravel roads etc. I have a Tiger but am thinking of downsizing to a Tenere. (shame you can't get a KLR650 in europe). I'm heading for Marrocco in the Spring and may just keep going.
Wallenius do a ferry that hops down Africa.
does anybody know how much of the trip is acheivable without having to resort to motocrossing?

You should get all the way on a Tenere .

one thing to remember if you intend spending time in SA around the time of the world cup.

we have been told by Family in SA that most accommodation is booked and the prices have more than doubled

Have a good trip

easy,
Almost tarmac all the way if you so want.
What are you waiting for,
get planning
The roads to Cape Town will be busy thats for sure,
There are loads of people planning.
Just keep following this forum, and see just how many travelers there wil be.
Good to join a group wth a few other bikers and 4x4 'ers
Aim on going the west coast, and plan on 90 ~ 100 days.

It could be done faster, but we can leave that for the race trackers.
Rough aim is 130 miles a day. Some more, some les, some none.

hope to see you along the way.

I'm leaving in Jan down the west coast. Taking it slow 5 - 6 months so you should catch me up.

E-mail me and we'll hook up on the way down if you like.

Hi Richard, (sockpuppet)

Hello Richard, I think 2010 will be a busy year for overlanders, and UK (Europe) to Cape Town seems to be getting more popular every time I log onto HUBB.
I am hoping that as our time draws closer for our leaving, I will be able to find a few other travellers, on bikes or 4x4, who will travell a similar route, and can enjoy good good experience and company together.
