Want to join me and circumnavigate Africa?

Hi,

I am at the very start of planning another trip This time I want to circumnavigate Africa. - does anyone want to join me??

I am currently living in Brisbane Australia and will be looking at shipping my bike to either England or India... I haven't decided as it would largely depend on who I can gather up to join me.

I am thinking about doing this mid to late 2010 and spending a bit of time travelling slowly around (if I am going to do this I want to see the sights, not just blow some dust around in a couple of months)

My last trip I went from Bangkok to Moscow over ten months travelling mainly alone on a XR250. I travel light / cheap and like to do it on a DR-Z250 (small but light - this may change)

I don't like to over research things... just the major items - I try to leave a lot up to what happens happens!

So if you think you would like to join me and help out on the planning please get hold of me!

Danielle

africa 2010

Currently deciding on my first trip and Africa keeps coming up ! I've done plenty of adventure travel but nothing via motorbike as yet. Have bmw f650gs and am currently kitting it out. Would love to do cheap and chilled whilst seeing the sights also. Live in UK near southampton/portsmouth, two big ports, i believe bikes can get shipped into southampton. Mid 2010 would fit perfectly.

If your still interested would love to tag along :thumbup1:

not able to pm at the moment, as i haven't got enough posts, so stick with me! Not sure about alot of this at the moment and how to move forward in planning, can't really meet over a beer - which would be great - might be a bit far to go ! Am going to HU UK meet in June, so may give me ideas. Off-road school in April and mechanics course in June, also planned. Just taking each day at a time

About me, I'm 39, single female, locum pharmacist, mostly chilled out (except when stressed with work) and enjoy a good beer and a laugh. I do like my own down time to chill out and listen to music. Interested in sharing knowledge, experiences, whilst having a awesome time meeting new people along the way.

Currently have a friend finishing trans SA, he may have ideas in how to move forward with this.

I am in a similar boat. Looking for a trip round Africa or to Australia. Time not an issue but I am fairly new to the "adventure" bit

Lou, where have you managed to find a mechanics course?

Sorted out mechanics course with world of BMW. Its only a day course but its a start, just to give me the confidence to know what I'm looking at and undo a few nut and bolts. Its not cheap - £195 - there maybe other courses out there.

Around Africa

I have been thinking of and semi planning the Africa trip for awhile. I don't have a time limit to do it, just want to enjoy the sights, culture and trip. I have also considered via India. Late 2010 would suit me better.

London to Agulhas...

I am very keen on travelling down from London to Agulhas - dates quite flexable at the moment - and would certainly be more interested in seeing what is along the way than simply blowing up the dust... Will be interested in perhaps teaming up with folks either all or part of the way - circumnavigation sounds great but about twice as far as I've been thinking of doing thus far.

Also going to the HU meeting at Ripley this year so hopefully a chance to meet up with some folks and talk things over...

loubutler 19 Mar 2009 21:24

i'm also going to HU meet in Ripley! Have to meet up and chat some more about possibility of Africa, gather more info. It will be my first meet and keen to hook up with other riders for some knowledge transfer :mchappy:

Sorry Mostly or should I say completely harmless, but not clocked up enough posts to PM yet! Only 1 more to go after this :)

Your not that far away in the great scheme of things and certainly would be great to meet up, unfortunately work most weekends but have sundays. Bank holiday weekend at off-road school in south wales (fri/sat) with BMW as I too am the proud owner of a f650gs (08 - not dakar). Therefore have sun and mon to kick around and take leisurely ride back home. Otherwise i've got sat 25th april free. If not would be good to PM and knowledge share too

Never done anything like this before and don't really know anyone yet. When do you need to swing by Portsmouth ?

Round Africa

Hi...would anyone consider circumnavigating Africa starting from Cape Town in September 09? I have just completed 20 months, 58 000 km from Prudhoe By, Alaska to Ushuaia in patagonia, riding a F650 GS. Now preparing to ride Africa.
For UK based people, shipping Southampton to Cape Town is reasonable. Starting down here means riding in relatively developed countries before hitting darkest Africa. And carnets are cheaper here then in the UK.
Planning the long, slow way around, like the Americas traverse.
