Virginia to Panama, May 2014

Hello all,

I am moving to Bocas del Toro, Panama and I am going to proceed my wife by a month or so and ride down. My loose date of departure is no later than May first, but maybe earlier.

It will be a one way trip for me, so I don't expect anyone to make just this ride. Just thought I would put it out there if anyone is going that way.

A bit about me...I am thirty-seven and happily married for 13 years. I am not a huge partiers but can drink a few s and have a good time, think pub not disco.

I love nature and am an avid bird watcher. I really want to see pyramids, and interested in modern architecture and cities much less, but can still appreciate them.

I am a vegetarian but don't care if you are. I will sleep under the stars without concern, but not every, or likely even most nights. Cheap motels and hostels are fine.

I don't have much off road experience but I am not nervous nor am I scared to dump a bike. I want to be a bit adventurous without being stupid.

A bit about my bike... though I ride a Tiger 800 most everyday, I am building and taking a KLR. I am not a bike snob however so if your bike is not as luxurious as a KLR it is ok.

If any of this might coincide with your plans and you are looking for company or help picking a bike up when needed let's talk.

Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Bryan
I am looking to head down that way around that time frame.
I may only go as far as Nicaragua. But when I get there I might just
keep going south depending on whether the ferry from Panama to Columbia
is operating.
Where would you enter Mexico? I'm guessing Matamoros.
I am on the west coast so we would have to hookup further into Mexico.

Well I honestly don't know where I will cross. I am expecting some maps this week to do some planning. I want to cross somewhere relatively easy. As it will be my first border crossing on a bike.

I am also in the mind to work my way to the Pacific once in Mexico and head down 200 and ease back over to Belize as I am interested in the pyramids there and have never been to Belize.

If I can work it I may even leave a week or two before may...if I can get everything sold off and ready here.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
