Oren,

I just did that trip in September last year. Don't bring your own bike. Your only option is to rent either a 120 cc honda (which are suprisingly robust...) or possibly an expensive harley or slightly larger honda enduro for a much higher fee. Go with the 120cc for about 4 bucks a day, bring your international and Moto license, get insurance from worldnomads.com, bring your own good full face helmit, gloves and riding gear, and prepare for the most insane motorbike/car drivers ever. Write me back if you would like to know where to stop, but there are some great and inexpensive hotels in the south that are really comfortable. I've kept all the hotel cards, so I can save you a lot of effort.

I did Hanoi to HCMC, mostly off Route 1, last month. Used a 125-cc Minsk. Much of what I rode was the new Ho Chi Minh Trail Highway near the western border. Good road, except for a military section closed to the public north of Kai Saen (Sp?). I rented from a good guy up in Hanoi whose brother lives in HCMC. Coung. Write me back if you want details. No problems but bring your own tools. What you get with a rental is zip. Drivers definately wild, but not as bad as India. Don't be afraid to go alone. People are friendly and more so if your on your own. Dr. Gregory W. Frazier,
