Vancouver, Canada to South America May - July 2014 WorldCup

The rough plan is to ride from Vancouver to South America and preferably watching a game of the world-cup in Brazil.

May - July would be the rough timetable.

Any comments or anyone interested to join?

Maybe we can meet and travel some of the way together

My plan starts in Florida in April 2014 then head up to Alaska (May/June) and return via BC and USA National parks (July/Aug) heading for Mexico (Sep/Oct) and so on down to S America. Plan to take my time and where possible avoid freeways.

I have about 18 to 24 months to get to Tierra del Fuego, Traveling cheap and camping wherever possible North of the Central Americas and then again in South America.

Will be on a KLR 650.

Wotnext, I will be travelling on my 2013 KLR 650 out of Santiago in February 2014. Are you going to be in South America at that point? Maybe we can connect.

South America---------

I will be leaving on or about Sept. first 2014 from S.F. area. I went to the Arctic Circle with my friend from Canada and we are now doing the South American leg leaving as I said 9/01/14
I plan on trip lasting from 2 months minimum to 6 months (the 2 months is very unlikely and 4 months is what I am really thinking). I will be getting travel health insurance (any recommendations from experienced travelers ?). bringing camping gear with idea of 1K US $ per month but can swing 1.5K(or more if necessary ) ......................As of now it looks like my friend will not be in position to travel all the way with me as he cannot spend much more than 2 months time. Traveling with a 09KLR
Any interested parties send me email and let the planning begin.........

Wot, Alex and Glenn,

I live in Peru about 1/2 way down South America. I own an adventure moto tour company and employ KLR650s (among other motos). If you happen to need a part, I just may have it. If you take the inland route thru Peru (and you should!) I will be right in your path in Huanuco, Peru.

I am leading a group of friends on a 10-week trip Peru-Bolivia-Argentina-Brazil (to catch the world cup game Japan vs Columbia in Cuiaba, Brazil on June 24th) - Bolivia-Peru, so I will be gone May 20 to July 20 from my home base.

But if you come thru before that (since you are trying to get to Brazil for the World Cup), you are welcome to stay at our B&B. I even have a skilled mechanic to work on your KLR if need be. I can even get parts, tires for you in Lima and get them up to Huanuco so you won't have to go thru the hell that is Lima!

I HIGHLY recommend that you DON'T shoot for Rio or Sau Paulo, hugh cities with high crime rates, to see the World Cup. They will be mad houses with prowling thieves! Go for Manaus, Cuiaba, or one of the other 'smaller' cities. You will be MUCH more relaxed and enjoy yourself more!

Cheers! Toby

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
