female riding alone in Mexico???

Any women who have ridden solo in mainland Mexico? I am en route now from Montana. Will I just encounter enough other riders to feel safe? Riding a grey '83 Honda GL650 SilverWing with black and red Ortlieb bags strapped on... silver helmet, blue/black jacket. Any advice, please. October 18, 2005

Check out this lady's site http://lowerider.ca/

According to her journal, she's currently in Mexico.

Lots of women have done it solo - for (fairly) recent info, other than what's posted above, search the site for Lois Pryce. Unfortunately her website is toast, but she's working on it!

I would not expect you to have any trouble, or at least no more than in the US.

By the way - where you headed? Tell us more!

There's lots of other travellers, single and couples, heading south and in northern - mid-Mexico at the moment.

Mexico is actually quite safe to travel on bikes. I know at least two other gals that have soloed it there. Louis Pryce being one of them.

If you need advise on routes, contacts, etc. Let me know. I`m from there though I'm currently in Sucre Bolivia.

Hi Flying Tiger!
I went through Mexico in 2003, some of it solo, some of it in company, and found it to be fine. I was pretty wary to start with but the worst you'll encounter is over attentiove gentlemen. If you're polite and friendly to them you'll be fine. My fake wedding ring helped matters though...
My website is back in action now at www.loisontheloose.com so you can read my Mexico journal entries there. Good luck and drop me a line if you've got any more queries.
Cheers,
Lois

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
