Ukraine, end of feb 08

Hello everyone, im setting off towards the middle/end of febuary for the ukraine, from blackpool (middle of UK) going via belgium, germany, poland. Then I'm going to explore eastern europe for a few months from a base (tent, room, flat?) in Lviv or Kiev. Just wondering if anyones going that way, or might be around that area at some point. Im 22 and havnt ridden out of the uk, so any advice relevant to that area would be a great help!

We'll be in the Ukraine roughly between 27 May 2008 and 4 June 2008 on our way to Kazakhstan and Russia . . . too late . . . If not send me an email.
Regards
Mick

Hi Benjamin,
I'm with Mick on the trip (from the previous post) but am just down the road from you in a village near Clitheroe. If you want to pop over or give me a call you're welcome.
Cheers

Skidooing in the Ukraine

Are you planning to make this trip into the Ukraine on a skidoo or snow machine? Remember that the Russian winters stopped both Napoleon and Hitler.

I am from Canada, and I biked in the UK and Europe for 7 years. There are times of the year when you cannot bike on the continent.
You need to check the weather and temperature conditions in those countries for this time of year.

I am currently in Peru and on my way to completing my trip from Canada to Tdf. This is where you should be in February!

Hi Mick and Paul,

I will start in Germany at beginning of May and travel over Ukraine, Russia, Kazachstan, Usbekistan, Tadschikistan, Kirgisien, Mongolia to Vladivostok.
Are you interested in travelling together? :confused1:

The Stans

Hi Jens
We arrive in France on the evening of the 6th May and ride down through Germany to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungry, Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan. Mick and Colleen then head north to Russia for the return leg whilst I go south to Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan before crossing The Caspian for Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and then back up through Europe. The route is still flexible but getting visa dates fixed up now.
You'd be more than welcome to travel with us. (or could meet up on the way.)
PM or email with your mobile if you're interested and I'll give you a call.
Mit Freudlicher Gruss
Paul

Hi Paul,

OK, so we will meet in Germany and I will start with you, perfect, if this is ok for you! does it have a special reason for you to go over Czech Republic and Slovakia? my plan was over Slowenia, this must be a very nice country (much nicer than Czech republic. I will meet a guy named Tom in Kazachstan to go with him to Mingolia, over Russia to Japan and later by transsiberian railway to Moskau...my first plan was to go this way: Kasachstan, Usbekistan, Tadschikistan then Kirgysia but no problem: I can also go the other way round with you and when you will go from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan and I will go then 2.time to Kazachstan, will meet Tom. You didn`t want to go over Tadschikistan too ? the Pamir-Highway must be one of the Highlights in this area, they told me..and I saw films about it.

Biker-regards Jens

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
