Hi Joshc...

When are you setting off in '08?

Would be really interested in how long/how/and how much its cost you to set up and what you think your budget will be??? etc etc...

I'm a fellow Devon TA rider and looking to do a 'trip' in a couple of years time, hence spending some time on line in such top sites as this to learn from others wiser than I.....

I'll PM you when I've posted >8 posts if thats OK?

am doing a trip from UK to SA within the next year and half with two other guys.

After that am heading to Oz hopefully but definately to SA due to one of the riders his family live in SA and knows of many people we can meet with on the way and our destination.

I too am looking at guide prices for the trip as this will be my first BIG trip.

Hi 'Toole'

Have since found this site through the HUBB

www.planitearth.co.uk - UK to Australia 2007 - Home Page

Two guys heading down to Oz, the really useful section is on the stats; on fuel used/cost etc, a very detailed spreadsheet which give good info to assist with budgeting etc....

There is almost too much info out there, and it does take sometime to search through a fraction of it... you could do what I'm doing and post 'I'm an idiot, please help' threads; as I have just posted one on tyres (oh as if there isn't enough on tyres out there!!!!) But I'm just after a general perspective as to look into tubed or non tubed tyres, I can then dig in a bit deeper when I know what direction I'm going in........ at least that my theory......

nice site find

Looking at some of the stuff i can easily sue some of their info and translate it into what i could be looking at.

They spent just over 500quid about 1000dollars on petrol alone! WOW

shows how much there is too look into!

It isn't the cheap option, compared with a package holiday to Morroco for example; but it is about the journey.....

After getting the right bike and setting it up...

......Fuel and accomodation seem to be the main impact when actually out there... although have yet to do the research on visas!! (camping is my main option to keep the price down where possible); but hey everywhere is cheaper than the UK if you look at their graph on petrol prices it also helps decide where you may want to spend the most time exploring??

Lots to look at and do (especially for a bike dummy like me...) and I thought a couple of years would be plenty of time to prep....!!!

Try this thread...

Mike knows what he is talking about, and has already helped me with my stoopid questions on another thread about tyres.....

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
