UK -> Malaysia

I've had a change of plans, I'm hoping to be studying in Malaysia next year, where Nottingham University (where I study) has a campus. I've dreamed of long motocycle trip for some time, and I own an '84 XT600 Tenere in good shape and a recent rebore. I'm familiar with the AMH. To start the acedemic year in late September, it doesn't leave me with a lot of time for planning, documents, getting spares for the bike etc.

The only real way I can see this all happening is if I find someone who's done a similar trip, and is happy to spend an afternoon sharing their experience and help decide on a route. I wonder about the need to have a turn-by-turn route before I set off, but a good idea of the things to look out for in countries I pass through, it might be the only time I ever see many of these countries, I'd like to make the best of it. I'm hoping it'll be possbile on a budget of around £1500, keeping costs low, adopting a low-tech approach. I (used too, at least) speak passable Russian, which could be useful, depending on the route. Is this plan unrealistic? I would like very much to hear from you. Thanks, David

So you want to leave about June and be there in September? In Anatolia it will be 45C, in Iran and S Pakistan about 50C. In India you hit the monsoon. You have to fly to Thailand. Wrong timing for this route.

You could go through Russia and perhaps Mongolia, but you will have to fly to SE Asia somehow. I don't know whether there is enough time left to arrange visas for this route.

I don't think 1500 is enough to even cover fuel and air transport. Perhaps you could fly your bike over and ride back at the end of your studies?
