UK London to Alps this July/August ?

Hi ,

anyone interested in doing a 2 week motorcycle adventure trip this summer from UK ( I am from London) to ride south France, Alps and regions around?

I am at the very early stage of planning and would be interested in joining a group or just meeting some other riders to plan the trip an have a wonderful time exploring the region

I'm heading down to the (French) Alps this summer but probably in June rather than July / Aug - and even in June I'm not certain when. I'm also not certain which bike I'll use - a 125, a 400 or a 600, or even how long I'll be away for. As you can probably guess I don't tend to plan these things much, just make it up as I go along.

If you're looking for info about the Alps - best roads to ride etc, you could do worse than having a look at the Alpine Roads website - "www.AlpineRoads.com - The Best Biking Roads In The Alps"

Hi,

I'm doing a similar trip about the same time. Planning on leaving beginning of July making my way down to the Alps in a round about way. Plan on doing the Stella Alpina rally on the second weekend in July. I will be getting there on the Thursday before to meet up with some guys from the Adventure Bike Rider forum to do some trail riding in that area.

After that I'm not sure whether to start heading back or continue further south in Italy. Want to include some mountain passes like the Stelvio pass amongst others.

I'm from Suffolk. Riding my 82 Honda XL500R.

Hi backofbeyond. I'm going to the French Alps in June/July on a 125cc. One day in Nice and then going back to the UK through the Alps.

I'll be going back through the Alps in a round about sort of way while trying to find a way through to Italy and then on to Slovenia.

I start from west France beginning of July and make my way as fast as I can to the hills, I mean Alps :scooter:

One nice area I stayed at last year was at a place called 'Xonrupt-Longemer'
Tour de France came through while I was camped there. I just happened to have got caught in that mini tornado that ripped through the area a few days before. I was lucky, holding my little tent ready for take off. Anyhow, there is plenty of camping or other forms of accommodation by small lakes. The roads, well, twisty is one way to describe things. A good place to start before heading into the bigger more exciting part of the Alps.

Have you thought of what areas interest you or is it more that you wish to explore going up and down the various 'Cols'?

How will you intend to spend the nights, in a tent or a classy hotel? :Beach:

Alps

Heading down to the alps probably via the Route de Naploeon on the 6th July until sunday the following weekend, so about 8/9 days.
South of France then along to northern italy, stelio pass and several others before heading north.

Camping with a couple of B&B stops to degunge.

UK to the Alps

Hi, myself and my partner did a 3000 mile trip through France, Switzerland and Italy on our trusty ZRX1100 last year and are looking at a similar similar two week trip for the end of August, heading down through the Alps to Austria and maybe Slovenia.
Our trips don't involve any planning as such, other than heading in the general direction and avoiding where we can the motorways. We do a mixture of camping and cheapish hotels.
Every year this is planned with a few mates and every year one by one they drop out. So if you are heading that way and want to ride along for some or all of the way drop us a line.

I will be in southern France and the Alps around the beginning of July, shoot me a PM and we can see if our paths cross. If we can ride together that would be great, if not maybe grabbing lunch and a beer.

Hi,

having just completed enough work to pay for fuel... I'm looking at doing the Alps (inc Route Napoleon if possible ) as soon as possible after next Thursday.

Have you got dates/ferries set yet ? Happy to tag along.

I should be leaving around the 26th June to catch the train at Folkstone. Want to do as many mountain passes and great roads as possible before getting to the Stella Rally on Thursday 11th July. Plan on camping for most of it.

Bike serviced, just a fully loaded shake down then the alps here I come. Got my son as a pillion and cameraman. Heading to Paris then onto Dijon. Not really planned a lot from there, just ride to the Stelvio and try a catch a view of Mont Blanc
.

route de grande Alps reckoned to be better than Naploeon, although I have only done RDGA. I have to say it was exceptional. Stelvio is overated. Although it's very pictureskew on a bike the turns are too tight, it's not really fun, just hard work. There are much better biking roads out there.
