Uk-Cape Town. Sept2010-Dec2010(ish)

Hello everyone,

I've been a lurker on the HUBB for sometime (I've never really felt I had much to contribute that hadn't already been said!) and a two times visitor to the HU meeting at Ripley (2008 and again this year, both superb!)

I've been dreaming and planning a motorbike overland trip for many many years and now the time has come - I leave the UK on Tuesday the 24th August, in 8 Days time!

I'll be travelling on my own, on my unreliable F650GS(2001), via the Belgium grand prix, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa. If all goes to plan, I aim to very roughly cover approx 1000 miles per week give or take which means the trip should take about 4 months ish. Maybe I'll be there or thereabouts in Cape Town for Christmas and New year...

Thought I would just say hello and if anyone will be along this route at about the same time then please say hello! Maybe we'll meet up along the way...

James.

Hey James,
Sounds like one hell of a trip,....I'm leaving on Saturday with my father on 2 BMW 800's to do much the same route in Africa. We're blitzing down to the new Venice-Alexandria ferry to save some time. Plan is we'll be in Cape Town by end Nov so we might be a bit ahead of you but you never know!
I'll post anything I think might ease your passage
Safe travels
Boomer

Dear all,
have a safe trip and if you will have a stop over in Dar before heading towards your next destination, send a PM.
Accomodation for you and the bikes shouldn't be a problem - and my Dakar is looking forward to seeing some other BMWs around...;-))

I too am a lurker, but that sounds like a great trip, too bad i'm a bit late and missed the boat. Still looking for a bike in the UK too.

All the best, will keep an eye out for a ride report.
