Hi Mehmet;

Is it possible to obtain a map of rural roads (koy yollari) from maybe Koy Hizmetleri or somewhere? Or is google maps going to be the answer? Me and the wife are going to come through Turkey next summer (temp will be hot but we might run to the east after mid July) and would like to go through some rural stuff and camp here and there so a map would be ideal. If not we'll just see where we end up :)

Thanks
Oli

Hi,
İt s very hard to find printed Turkey köy yolları maps and in some places, it will certainly be a problem..Every year many plant spies,thieves and treasure hunters are being caught..I will search for that..May be on city or province basis will be available..Which cities?

Almost all roads in my mind..Currently we all use this site for details when needed..Lets keep in touch.Will inform you some days later..

Hi Mehmet;

Probably mostly in the Agean and Mediterration region (Mentese and Taurus mountains) also in Ic anadolu and maybe a bit in the east. We are going to zig-zag Turkey a bit, want to do some coastal stuff, then south east Antep, Urfa etc then the Blacksea region, then Erzurum Kars, then into Georgia) For example looking on google maps there are a zillion roads from Tire to Aydin through lots and lots of villages/rural roads. I doubt these will all appear on any road maps. I'm thinking of getting an old smartphone and just cache-ing the googlemaps data on to in (then won't need wifi). Will probably require a few SD cards but it just might work. Most rural roads seem to stem from main roads and either re-join the main road or join another (i.e. on the other side of the mountain).

(Also apologies to the others for semi-hijacking the thread..it's all good info though)

Edit: just did some more research Nokia Maps has ALL the roads, I might get hold of a second hand nokia lumia or something, their maps work offline aswell, unlike google.

Hi,

Would like to give some important notes for all willing to bike in Turkey.

1-Gas is most expensive here.2.nd highest price on the world.

2-Camping in wild areas is not officialy permitted except the ones with road signs as many wild animals around.
Aspecially river-fountain sides..There are road signs for free camping.
(e.g..by salt lake for bikes and caravans)
https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...35908522_n.jpg

Best places for camping are:

A-gas station gardens and if it is cold,you can stay in mescits at nights.(place to pray while u are away from a mosque.)..Sure will be permitted..We love adventure travellers...
Be ready to be offered so much ÇAY.

B-better ask the head man of the village, MUHTAR, he will show you a good place to put up your tent or invite to MISAFIRHANE (guest room) or KAHVE (village cafe generally face to face with the village mosque)after its closed late at night..

C-In all natural parks, there are places for free and safe camping..

D-During summer months, many festivals for bikers available which are organised by local bikers clubs..free camping,amusements,shows,concerts and generally breakfast.)..When the list is completed,will announce here as usual..
https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...52602443_n.jpg

3-At country side,golden key is a selamünaleyküm to a local before starting talking...

4-Lokal bikers are very helpful and ready for any friendly help or support...This is the best friendly community..

5-Never pick flowers and plants or keep them in your bags including antique looking stones or materials..

Turkey is developing faster but also loosing natural beauties faster..So village locals are more hospitable than those in cities..

Some days later, will write 2 GOLDEN ROUTES FOR BIKING IN TURKEY under a different thread here with some photos...
For:
1-Bikers who will ride back to Europe
2-Bikers who will ride to Iran.

Wish you all happy,safe,lucky trips...

G'day mate,

Read a couple of your posts, sounds good about keeping in touch regarding this ferry to Aktau. If going to Baku I've read that the Azeri's don't like it if you've been to Armenia beforehand, because of their border disputes. This may have changed since I first nutted out my trip but just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Your last couple years look awesome mate

Stay safe
Tom
