Trip ro Pyrenees
 

Hi,
I am planing to go to Pyrenees in Sept. (for 2 weeks) for a search of some gravel/light dirt roads (V-strom 650).
Anyone interested in joining?

Hi Greg,
I could be interested, are you thinking of the french or spanish side? I have been once before, going plymouth/Sandander as I'm in the southwest and staying on the spanish side.

I can't send you a PM cause I do not have required number of posts yet so I write a general post. I was away from internet for some time (short trip to CH) so I did not respond. I am thinking about going to Spanish part of Pyrenees and maybe follow the Book No. 5 RB 5 . I do not have it, but I was thinking about buying it. Due to the fact that I have no idea about the routes over there I fought that for the first time it would be good to actually have some waypoints and route suggested. Due to limited off-road capabilities of DL650 (or even non, as some say :-) ) I was thinking mostly about gravel roads, rather then some serious dirt riding. However I think that going slowly even V-strom will make it through some more difficult terrain. I was thinking about going for two weeks, lets say from 1st of September, but I am quite flexible (+/- 1 week is fine). Also if time allows maybe detouring into Sierra de Luna or Desierto de Bardenas Reales S Navarra. Actually I have no idea, only places that I have read about from some posts... However, I am also open for any other suggestions, as long as it is possible to leave the tarmac and the most "touristic" places.

As far as food and accommodation is concerned I was planing tenting and camping cooking.

Hi Greg, Just tried to email you this but it wouln't send.
Just picked up your post, thanks, hope you enjoyed your recent trip. I have a feeling I might have 'buggered it' as they say, by innocently taking a 10 metre short cut track last wednesday evening (can't have been long after replying to your post). I must have hit an obscured object in the hedge as I managed to crush my foot!(nearly passed out with the pain) I fear it might be broke which is going to be a nightmare allround as I'm a self employed gardener/ log supplier, but more importantly I could be off the bike for at least 6 weeks! So I'm afraid I'm a bit pre-occupied at the moment. I'm going for a CT scan tomorrow then seeing the consultant on friday to see if it needs an op. I should know more then. Still can't believe it has happened. Are you fairly rigid with the dates you mentioned? As I say I'm hoping to know the score on friday so if I may I'll let you know. The trip as you describe it sounds great. I'm down in South Devon in Paignton.

I am not completely fixed with the date yet, but some time this year I would go :-)

I have the month of October off and looking to do some light riding and sight seeing in Europe. I'm pretty flexible with everything.

Unfortunately October does not work for me. My dates clarified a little bit, and the best for me would be 19.08 - 4.09. So I am becoming more and more specific. Actually, I am also considering now a second option, to go into Balkans, due to the fact that Adrian won't make it till this dates, and some friends of mine are going there in this time.
Maybe you can contact Adrian directly, and arrange with him something for October. Maybe till then his foot will be functional again... :-)

Yeah, whatever is good.

My job is very unpredictable, so this is the best I can do. But, I will look up Adrian and see what he's thinking.

Either way, Balkans are going to be a lot of fun. I spent some time last year in Greece and Croatia - stunning scenery...

Just joined this; saw your post. The R5 route looks pretty cool. Thinking of going down to Spain sometime next week (Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao), then flexible from there; ultimately heading to Italy, Balkans, via South of France.

If you still planning to do Spain, give me a shout and see what we can work out.

BTW DL650 V-Storm is not bad off-road, bit heavy. I had one in New Zealand in January, and it was quite good fun.

Trip to Pyrenees has clarified a bit. We go with PeteDynatz. Meeting point - 20-21 August in the area of San Sebastian and ride to Tudela. From there we follow Roadbook No. 5. (for around 10 days).

Hi all,

very envious you will be getting there soon greg/pete, I am in hospital saturday for operation on the foot, then at least 6 weeks on crutches I think, so at best I will not be on my feet till october. I am naturally gutted that summer will be about over, so I might well have to look to next year for a bike trip, but you never know!
