Hi guys,

I'm in Lome now, and from the sounds of it it would be a good idea to get the DRC visa here!

Charlie, can you shoot through the coordinates of the DRC embassy and for the immigration office? Also, what are the requirements for a residency permit? It could help me with getting the Angola visa as well...

Well, the residency permit for Togo was almost too easy. No proof of residency required, just cough up the dosh and it's yours!

Next is the DRC and Angola visas. Does anyone have GPS coordinates and know what's required for the DRC visa? I think I've got Angola covered.

DRC Embassy in Lome is N06 08 770 E001 12 685. Cost 40,000CFA. Submit application and collect next day. .. I think!! The consular official was friendly but French was useful. If you follow the coordinates you won't believe how grotty the streets look but persist and you'll see a flag and a sign.
I didn't visit the Angolan Embassy.

I hit up the DRC today, it was just like you said. No problems making the application but the consular did want to see the resident permit for Togo. Like you say, pickup is tomorrow. I also tried the Angola again but the consular has ducked out to Abuja for the week. Spewin!

So tomorrow it'll be off to Cotonou. Looking forward to it! Anyone got any experience getting the Benin visa at the border? From what I see on the interwebs it sounds pretty common.

We were rejected by Benin immigration and had to return to Lome to get our visa... so, beware! C

Sorry... should have been more explicit. . we tried to get Benin visa at border which worked for Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire (just), Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon and Congo... but failed for Benin on the Lome/Cotonou route. C

Hey Charlie,

I got the 48 hour transit visa for Benin at the border with no dramas. Strange that you got knocked back! Also, I wasn't aware that Lome had a consulate for Benin? Otherwise I would have done that and not chanced it at the border!

Good news about the transit visa... although we wanted to stay longer in Cotonou... which turned into an imperative after we failed to get a Nigerian visa at the border heading for Lagos and had to double back.
Good luck in Nigeria. We found everyone (or almost everyone) to be really helpful but we didn't hang around... crossing into Cameroon inside 2 days and 5 hours. Not much tourism!!

Arranging visas..
Guys, need some advice,

Just arrived in dakar, two pax (argentinian +belgian) each on motorbike, with carnet de passage.

Plan is mali-burkina-ghana-togo-benin-nigeria-cameroon-gabon?-congo-drc-...

In two wks in ghana, end of june in drc..

What are the easiest places to arrange visas?:

-mali: we have
-burkina: in bamako?
-ghana: dakar? Bamako? Ouagadougou?
-togo: at border
-benin: border? Accra? Lome?
-nigeria: dakar? Accra?
-cameroon: dakar? Lagos (?rather not, just transitting nigeria) (abidjan no possibility, as we dont pass)
-gabon: lome? Yaounde?
-congo: lome? Yaounde?
-drc: we have

Arranging everything in dakar, would mean we have to stay for 10d.. Or more

Hey everyone,

I'm in Calabar, Nigeria and I'm looking at what's next. Does anyone who's "been there, done that" have any recommendation of a good place to stay the night near the border with Cameroon? I don't like the idea of a 500km day from Calabar to Douala with a border crossing to boot!! Wouldn't mind splitting it up. Any recommendations would be welcome!

We stayed in Manfe which is an easy distance inside Cameroon if you're crossing on the Ikom-Manfe route. There's a good choice of hotels, although we arrived a bit late and chose badly!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
