Tire size 17 to get in Iran, Pakistan or India?

I will go through Iran, Pakistan to India and heard about Problems to get a new tire for my Transalp because have just for size 18 or more. Shoul I buy one here in Turkey an carry it all the way?

Woul be nice to know that. I have now idea if my tire will do it all the way to Indie because I have no idea how the roads will kill my one. On paved roads it would last me for about 6000 kilometers.... And than I want to send it back to Germany. By plane or ship.... I anybody has an idea about that...

Thanks an good luck, Markus

I just bought a 17" rear in Rawalpindi, Pakistan from:

Tyre House
Murree Road (Very close to the underpass on the main road)
Near Commady Chowk.
Rawalpindi

It was a rather dodgy sounding 'GoldenBoy' made in Korea. I fitted it the other day to my DR650 and seems to be ok though its a lot thinner than my previous rear tyre.

If you can carry a spare one, I would do as the next place apart from Delhi is likely to be Bangkok for tyres.

Tyre-wise there is nothing much to worry about the roads where you are going. You will have an idea whether the tyre will last the distance or not.

There are NO big bike tyres of any size in Iran that we could find, although some people have managed to buy the occasional one.

There are some tyres available in India. Use the Search here to find posts about it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
