Getting to the Meeting

To get to the Kanchanaburi Travelers Meeting:

Step one.
Go to Kanchanaburi, Thailand. (This is 130 km west of Bangkok) (Bangkok is the big town, also called "the capital").

Step two
In Kanchanaburi find the road (323) to Sai Yok. (N. 14.03.823 E.099.29.514).
It is the big intersection on the west-side of town. If you entered the town, just folow the main-road. If you took the "ring-road", just folow that one. Both end up at the intersection.

At this intersection, take the direction to Sai Yok. Set your km.counter to zero.

After 9 Km you will pass a "Caltex" gas-station (in english this is a fuel-station).
Set your counter to zero again and ride on for exactly 1 km.

Step three
Take the small road on your left (N. 14.03.778 E 099.25.121)
Folow this small paved road for 780 meters.
Then turn left (N. 14.03.657 E. 099.24.771) onto a small un-paved road
(folow the powerlines)

Final step
At the end of this unpaved road (after 265 meters) turn right. After 60 meters turn left.
If you did well, you are now on our driveway.

The exact location: N. 14.03.505 E. 099.24.662

The adress: 151 moo 5, Pu Leab
Nong Bua
Kanchanaburi 71190
Thailand

It is the yellow(ish) house with red roof.

If you did not so well there are Three options:

1- Call for help: +666 1748 016 (will change sometime december in +66 86 1748 016)

2- If you are a "die hard" just start all over again.

3- Forget about the meeting and get drunk in the town. (Not as much fun, but if you could not even folow theese simple instructions, your are probably better of drunk anyway.

The meeting starts (oficially) on saterday 13 januari..... but you are welcome to arive on Friday, or thursday or even wednessday.

Actually, you are always welcome!

GPS-coordinates are in WGS. Formatted: DD.MM.mmmm

Tent or Hamock

A few people have asked me about guesthouses and hotels nearby the meeting site.
There are enaugh of them around within a 10 km radius.

But.... For the same price as two nights in a medium priced guesthouse (400 bath a night) you can buy your own tent at Tesco Lotus (Big supermarket you can find in most major towns) and camp at the meeting.
Or... you can buy yourself a 120 bath hamock (a very good one) and string it up under our carport-roof.

Think about it!

In a while i,ll put some hotels in here.

Don't forget to register!

A place to sleep.....

OK, since I now know for sure where we will eat spicy food, watch spicy pictures (travel pictures that is!) and then cool down with beer, coke or "sapelot pan" (which is pine-apple with milk).... I've set out to find some suiteble (and more important; close by) guesthouses.

I came up with this one:

Mr. Tee Guesthouse.
12 Laos Rd.
Kanchanaburi
034 624 074
GPS: N. 14.02.261 E. 99.30.731 (WGS DD.MM.mmm)
Fan-room: 200 bath. Aircon-room 400 bath

On the same road (not the little soi) you will find many many more guesthouses and hotels. Blue star is nice... so is Sam's

BUT !!!!!!....

For less then 400 bath (8 euro) you can buy a nice tent at the Tesco Lotus Supermarket. Then you can stay at our house and have breackfast with us all.

Also, traveling in the north of Thailand is nice with a tent. Almost every national park has camp-site's for litle or no extra pay (sometimes 10 or 15 bath). Also there are many free camp-sites... and there are plenty "wild camping" posibilities.
Now, would you rather sleep in a dusty, hot, noisy guesthouse in the middle of a town... or would you prefer a rustic patch or gras next to a refreshing waterfall? (OK, waterfalls tend to be noisy also... ;-)

Think about it!

See you soon.

Location is still Kanchanaburi

Hi,

Unfortunatly there seems to be some confusion concerning the
location of the HorizonsUnlimited Travelers Meeting Kanchanaburi.

Due to circomstances Greg Frazier wil not be in Kanchanaburi to
show his slide-show. People who wanted to come to the meeting
aspecially to see this show can however go to Chiang Mai instead.
If I understand it correct Greg Frazier wil show his presentation there.

Unfortunatly it will be on the same date as the HU-meeting.

Anybody who wants to cancel his/her registration for the kanchanaburi meeting can do so simply by sending a reply to the registration-confirmation he/she has received from me.

This is important to correct the diner-reservations and to send refunds etc.

My apology for any confusion and inconviniance

As far as the Kanchanaburi-meeting is concerned: Nothing has changed.

polite people always finish last

It seems not only the gouverment has it share of problems in Thailand.
The kanchanaburi travelers meeting is also the victim of a coup.

Ergo, there is no more Kanchanaburi meeting.
Greg Frazier, who was not satishfied with my organisation, has taken over, and the event will no be in Chiang Mai, without me.

I am sorry for all the confusion.

sad but true

One sunny morning I woke up and found a rather disturbed message in my mailbox, sent to me by someone who calls himself "tiger boy".

I would like to share this with all of you:

R U DOWN THERE MAARTEN?

U R FAMOUS IN THE GT RIDER WORLD - OUSTIDE SQUATTER TOILETS YOU CAN HEAR MOTORCYCLE TRAVELLERS SAYING INTO THE DROP HOLE 'HEY MAARTEN, YOU SHIT, R U YOU DOWN THERE?'
CRYING TO PEOPLE ABOUT COUPS AND BACK STABBING SHOWS HOW MUCH A SHIT YOU ARE.
YOU WILL BE TOPICS OF DISCUSSION, BE SURED OF THAT.
Robert From Bangkok

Aparantly I now am a back-stabber. Maybe one day Robert From bangkok will take the time to explain to me how he came to this conclusion.

Well, maybe there is no more Kanchanaburi travelers meeting, but bikers (with or without their bike) are still welcome to stay in our house or camp in our garden.

Hi Maarten,
Life is still interesting in Thailand I see.
Most of the gt-rider crowd are really good folks, but unfortunatly there are confused individuals everywhere.
Cheers, Your friend Peter
