In December of 2000 I did a solo ride from San Antonio, TX to far side of Panama and back. Had a GREAT trip, and envy yours coming up. I was a little more leisurely, at 80 days, but took a lot of side roads and explored. If you have any questions just holler.--Porter

Bud,
I'm entering Mexico from Texas, but I will be staying at Puerto Arista in southern Mexico for a few days. It is on the coast in the state of Chiapas. You will have to go close by it. I don't know when I will be there yet, but I will keep in touch after I leave around the 15th of January.

Paulzen,
I hope to be doing a similar trip in Feb. 2003. Are you willing to push back your trip? I can't leave any earler because of work...
I'll be leaving from New Jersey, so we could meet-up early in the trip.

RichieB 6 Dec 2002 21:51

Hello all,

I am planning a flexible trip south from Cancun to Costa Rica and would really like to link up with some folks (I'm taking the Yucatan Express ferry from Tampa in Mid-late Dec.). I'm a good mechanic on a KLR 650, traveling cheap.

I'm pretty flexible, but finding hard to keep track of all you that are doing similar trips. It would be great if some would reply/email so we can get a more detailed dialoge going.

Thanks,

Danh088 10 Dec 2002 05:31

Wow, quite a few headed south this winter. I'll be leaving Washington, D.C. early January and probably make Mexico mid January. No itinerary but southern Mexico(Oaxca y Chiapas) is point of interest. Probably no further than Panama as I'll be on a streetbike(SV650). Would be great to join others for any part of the trip.

The place in Puerto Ariste is "Jose's Cabins and Cabinas". I will be there for a few days prior to the first of Febuary. A friend stayed there two years ago on his trip and highly recommends it. He says Jose is the best chef in Mexico.

Just checking in. Is everyone still going to meet their proposed kick off date? Mine is so far, so good. I have an electrical problem with my bike. As soon as it is solved, I'll be good to go. As of now, I leave Kansas City Jan 15th.
John

bicar 7 Jan 2003 06:46

We're leaving mid February but this year we are taking the ferry out of Tampa. We rode out of Wisconsin the last two Januarys and have gone through Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. This year we are trying the ferry to Progresso and then to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. We'd love to meet up with some riders somewhere along the way. Let me know if you are going to be in the area.

They were asking me 50$, i got it down to 9$. Hungry cops in Nicaragua!!! If you stop here, I'm next to the police station!!! Otherwise have a good trip.
