In December of 2000 I did a solo ride from San Antonio, TX to far side of Panama and back. Had a GREAT trip, and envy yours coming up. I was a little more leisurely, at 80 days, but took a lot of side roads and explored. If you have any questions just holler.--Porter

I'm hauling my KLR to McAllen in January from Kansas City for a trip south. I'm sorry, I don't think I want to ride it from here in January. Pifa, when are you leaving? My shove off date is about the 7th.

Bud,
I'm entering Mexico from Texas, but I will be staying at Puerto Arista in southern Mexico for a few days. It is on the coast in the state of Chiapas. You will have to go close by it. I don't know when I will be there yet, but I will keep in touch after I leave around the 15th of January. John |

I'm thinking entering Mexico at El presidio. I would be coming from Big Bend national park, on my way to Copper Canyon. All that around end of january, from Minneapolis. See you, Fabrice. |
Hey,
I see there are some bikers on tour in january. I am also starting in Mexico, cancun in the middle of January and want to go to Panama. So I hope to see you and ride some miles together. Bye, wolfgang |
Hello all,
I am planning a flexible trip south from Cancun to Costa Rica and would really like to link up with some folks (I'm taking the Yucatan Express ferry from Tampa in Mid-late Dec.). I'm a good mechanic on a KLR 650, traveling cheap. I'm pretty flexible, but finding hard to keep track of all you that are doing similar trips. It would be great if some would reply/email so we can get a more detailed dialoge going. Thanks, |
Wow, quite a few headed south this winter. I'll be leaving Washington, D.C. early January and probably make Mexico mid January. No itinerary but southern Mexico(Oaxca y Chiapas) is point of interest. Probably no further than Panama as I'll be on a streetbike(SV650). Would be great to join others for any part of the trip.

The place in Puerto Ariste is "Jose's Cabins and Cabinas". I will be there for a few days prior to the first of Febuary. A friend stayed there two years ago on his trip and highly recommends it. He says Jose is the best chef in Mexico.

Pifa, This map shows the southern coast of Chiapas. This site has versions that covers more ground. You should be able to find the info you need here. John |
Just checking in. Is everyone still going to meet their proposed kick off date? Mine is so far, so good. I have an electrical problem with my bike. As soon as it is solved, I'll be good to go. As of now, I leave Kansas City Jan 15th.
John |
We're leaving mid February but this year we are taking the ferry out of Tampa. We rode out of Wisconsin the last two Januarys and have gone through Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. This year we are trying the ferry to Progresso and then to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. We'd love to meet up with some riders somewhere along the way. Let me know if you are going to be in the area.

Hey guys,
I should be on the road no later than the 22th of this month. KC Fire, i should be around puerto ariste early february, see you there. For others i'll be in copper canyons around 27/28th this month. I'll be staying 10 days in Nicaragua.... Otherwise no major plan i'll see who's on the road and go where.... Good ride everybody. Pifa. |
Well, the electrical problem is fixed, but I'm not quite ready due to illness. May be good to go this weekend.
Pifa, When I leave Puerto Ariste, I will be heading to San Pedro at Lago de Atitlan for Spanish lessons. If I miss you both of those places, I will try to contact you here. John |

Hola,

They were asking me 50$, i got it down to 9$. Hungry cops in Nicaragua!!! If you stop here, I'm next to the police station!!! Otherwise have a good trip. Bye Fabrice |
Hi, I am now in Costa Rica in Playa Tamarindo.
Hi Fabrice, i had got no ticket from the Police but they are really hungrey of the dollars. Here in Costa Rica is the Police friendly. But they know that from the Police in Nicaragua. So have a nice time and drive carefully. Wolfgang |
