Sweden to Singapore overland

Starting from Sweden in May 2010 I plan to ride a Gold Wing (GL1800) to Singapore via Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand & Malaysia. Visa research indicates that Myanmar may be a block so it would be the turn-around point unless a way can be found around it. (I have travelled the six continents and around the world, via Siberia, so I know the Wing can do this trip even if some say NO). Remember that a number of visas and carnets will be required. I'm getting mine before I start. Any takers? Hans (the Biker)
PS If you want to see photos of my trips you can find them on FaceBook.

Hi Hans. You are right Myanmar is impossible, however if you fancy transiting China and exit into Loas there is a small group making this trip in July. we will enter China from Mongolia on or about the 15th of July and exit into Laos on about the 8th of August. from Laos you can cross into Thailand or continue south into Cambodia. If you are interested in joining the group please let me know.

Regards Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for reply & info. Possible. However, I understand that some of the Asian countries, Laos , Vietnam etc do not permit big bikes to enter.

Hi Hans, re large bikes..I believe it is only Vietnam that restricts entry to large bikes ( in fact just lately it has been difficult to enter on any none Viet registered bike) Laos, Thailand, Cambodia have no such restrictions and do not use a Carnet system ( usefull if you want to leave the bike and travel home etc).

Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for info. Seems like the cost of a Carnet for Iran forces me to scrubb the Sweden-Singapore trip. Last year I made a deposit of US$16500 and paid a fee of C$550 to Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) for a Carnet to cover the Gold Wing transit thru Egypt. Tnis year CAA needs a deposit of C$43500 for transit thru Iran. Do you know if there is any way to ride thru Iran without a Carnet?
Regards, Hans
