Surrounding the Baltic in June...
Hi,

I'm going to surround the Baltic Sea in the middle of June..
From Germany,Poland,Russia (Kaliningrad)...Estonia,Finnland and via
Sweden back to Germany.
Anyone arround there or interessted to join?
Maybe somebody has already experiences or tips for the trip?

Hi Heiner,

Definately go to Norway if you can, other than that i can recommend all of the baltic states and the capitals as good places to visit (Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius). Kalingrad you will need a Russian visa to visit, if you get one you may as well go to St. Petersburg as well on the way to Finland.

Helsinki, Turku and Rovaniemi are worth a stop as is Stockholm if you are going via Sweden.

A single entry Russia Visa used to enter Kaliningrad will not get you to St Peter.

For that will need a double entry or multi entry visa because it will mean entering Russia twice - unless you go between the two by direct air or sea ferry.
These visas cost more - but you will get to Finland by land, saving a ferry from Estonia. And Russian fuel, which you can buy at the Finland border, is under 50p a litre (about 43 Euro cents) !

The Coronian Spit leaving Kaliningrad to Latvia is an interesting Natural Reserve with the sea on one side and a lagoon on the other. There is a Parks charge of about 2 Euros. The ferry at the end to Klaipeda costs about 4 Euros for bikes.

No. You cannot!! (but no one loves a smartarse!)

Below is what I posted on another thread (the ADVICE bit was really for longer journeys across Russia sooner than St Peter & Kaliningrad when you are always an hour or so from the border) -

Russia Visas can only be applied for in your 'home' country or in another country if you can show Residency Rights in that country - i.e. not just visiting/touring.

Visa requirements and cost varies depending on your passport country. For specific info look at the website of the Russian Embassy in the country where you would be applying. There are commercial agencies who can deal with everything including obtaining Letters of Invitation.

ADVICE: Make sure your Russia visa is for sufficient time - inluding a margin for delay.
Russia is Russia - delays are a natural way of life!
Visas cannot be extended or renewed and if you are not out of Russia by the expiry date you will get serious problems including further delays, fines and possible refusal of future visas.
Whatever the reason for your delay, you (but not necessarily your vehicle) must still leave within time and to apply for another visa you must go back to your home country!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
