Stuck in Rio de Janeiro
 

I´m presently stuck in Rio awaiting parts, but hope to depart for Paraguay and Bolivia in 3-4 days. If there´s anyone out there interested in meeting up, let me know.

Hi Jeremiah. What a nightmare to be "stuck" in Rio! Javier told me about you and your travels. We more or less just missed each other in South America. I'm from Golden, CO and hope to see you when we're both back home. Have fun over there, Dave.

Thanks for the message. It looks like we´re kindred spirits riding Dakars from Colorado! Best of luck in your travels, I will spend some time checking out your web site.

Stuck is a relative term. I´m bored here and ready to move on. It´s raining a lot and my wheels are down. I´m waiting for the morons at Works Performance to get me the bushings they were supposed to include with my new rear shock.

At this point I´d say I´ll be lucky to get out of here on Saturday. I then plan to ride back to Foz do Iguacu and on to Asuncion, across northern Argentina, then back up into Bolivia. I´ll spend a month or so there enjoying the dry season (last January it was a mud bowl).

I noticed you hooked up with a local HU member in Paraguay. Was his name Patricio, by chance? Do you have any recommended stops between Foz and Asuncion?

Miah, It was Patricio I met in Paraguay. He's a very nice fellow. He took me out to look for new tires but we didn't find any. In any event, he showed me around the town. There's not much between the falls and Asuncion, though it's pretty country through there. The people of Paraguay were just fantastic. I was often approached at gas stations by smiling folks/kids asking the usual questions. By the way, though the view of the falls is good on the Brazil side- it is considerably better from Argentina. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Dave.

I´ve been in touch with Patricio for a couple of months now. I plan to meet him in Asuncion. It´s funny you should mention tires, because when I asked him if tires were readily available there, he said no. Raul in Ciudad del Este says they´re easy to buy there, however. I´ll only be about 50% used up by the time I get to Asuncion, so I shouldn´t need new rubber until maybe La Paz. Do you know how the availability looks in La Paz? It´s that 17-inch rear that gets us. I´ll be doing a lot of off-road in Bolivia, so I´d like to get new tires not long after getting there.

A number of folks have told me about the spectacular Argentine view of the foz. Last time I only enjoyed the Brazilian side, so I will surely make the effort to visit Argentina´s vista, this time around.

I´m in Foz now, heading into Paraguay tomorrow or Sunday. Anyone around who wants to ride to Asuncion?
