Srinagar to Leh and Back on Sep.29 or Sep.30

I am venturing on a motorbike trip on thursday(Sep.29) or friday(Sep.30) to Leh from Srinagar including a detour to Zanskar and back. So far I am solo.. a friend might be able to join me but he can't confirm.

I am looking for people who are keen to take-up this adventure with me.. provided you have a motorbike or if anyone is planning to go on the same route around same time then probably meet up somewhere along the way :-)

I know it's a short notice and maybe not an ideal weather to be on motorbike on Sri-Leh highway.. But then I am not an ideal person and I guess it's better to try then I just sit and ponder :-)

This ride will be somewhere from a week to 10 days(weather permitted!!)

If there is anyone planning to go on the same route with a motorbike and wants to travel along then please do get in touch.

Definitely, it will be wonderful to have few more people joining me.

Looking forward to responses :-)

Cheers.

Leh to Srinagar in October

Hi Imraali,

It might be the wrong time of the year, weather can change very quickly and there is not a lot of support in between. Scenery, when conditions a right, absolutely spectacular, otherwise a bugger of a ride. Why do you want to come bacK the same way? Only out of interest, but good luck to you.

Cheers

RM

Hi Rusty -
I know it is not the best time of the area to go on this route. I have done this route few times but always in month of June or July. I just got sometime on-hand now so I want to check it out in this weather.

Why I am coming back to Srinagar... because I am a Kashmiri so I had to come back home :-). I have friend's in Kargil and in Leh so I should be alright when I get to these major towns.

You are right, it can be really tough on road with no support and that too solo. I can speak local language so I should be alright on the road (I guess!!!!)

Are you around in this area these days??

Cheers.

Imraali,

Wouldn't mind being around your country again, but I have been in India many times and there are many more roads to ride. But there is always a chance to run into each other on day.

Cheers

Correction

Hey Budd -
I just have to correct you politically :-).. I am in Kashmir not India.. I am sure you got the rest :-)..

Nevertheless, India has lot of offer also ;-)

I am all prepared to leave early morning tomo for Leh. You might already know that here in Kashmir, we do not use the known motorbike riding gear.. There are no ridings jackets, no riding pants, no riding shoes, etc etc. Normal clothes we wear in winter to keep warm, is what will be my riding gear.. Hope I will be alright :-).

Anyways, hope to cross paths with you some day somewhere. I have Tibet to central asia in mind for next year!!!

Cheers.

Hi Imraali - I did Leh to Srinagar in a Landcruiser in 2008 (overlandcruiser.net - India) and although the Kargil to Zoji-la bit was in the dark thanks to the Indian Army's 1-way system, the bits we did see were spectacular. No doubt you will be able to time the Zoji-la crossing better than us and not fall foul of this!!

As a matter of fact I know a couple of people in that area who are into biking. Not sure whether they are currently in Leh, Srinagar or Delhi but if interested PM me and I'll give you their contact details. Nice guys.

Hi guys ! I am Greg, 36, from France and plan to come in India at the begining of November. What I am looking for is someone who rides a bike and loves to ride. I would like to go to Rajasthan, to Manali, to Kerala so many things to see... maybe Sri Lanka...an why not Thailand...
Is there any traveller doing the same ?
Any advices ? Where to buy a Royal Enfield in Delhi ?

See you.

Greg
