Sponsored trip: London to Vladivostok / Magadan this summer. Anyone?

Hallo adventurers,

planning to depart London in June 08 for 6-8 weeks journey, heading east.
It is very probable that I will get some serious sponsor money for the trip too. In ideal case, I'd like to make the journey with 1 or 2 other guys, for safety sake.

I do speak Russian, so a bit more rapport / connection / fun along the way can be expected.

Let me know, if you want to catch up and have a chat

Marian,
What are your plans once you reach Vlad or Magadan? Will you be crossing the USA? Any chance you would want to ride East to West? Your time frame works for me. I have been studying Russian on and off for a year for the reason you mentioned - hopefully a bit more rapport / connection / fun along the way.

Hi Lance

basically I have 3 months sabbatical (jun, jul, aug), then I have to be back in London. Right now the plan is to get to Vlad / Mag and then either cross to the US or come or try a bit China and Koreas.
No big preference yet.

Hi Marian

I am the same with a 3 month sabbatical (jun, jul, aug), then I have to be back in Boston. The current plan is to ride to the west coast of the US and ship my bike to Korea then take the ferry to Vlad, then head west to Europe.
Maybe we could meet in Korea and head west. I was hoping to spend more time in Europe, relaxing at the end of my trip, and that is why I want to head west not east.

Zazigi,
Where are you in Poland? I worked in Krakow for 6 months in 2006 and want to spend time there again this summer. How far do you plan to travel into Russia before riding back to Poland?

Just curious, how do you get serious sponsorship for the trip? Is it a goal orient trip? Humanitarian? etc? And what exactly do you consider serious? Like gear? Lodgings? Monetary? Just curious? Im looking to do a trip departing Canada and was trying to figure out something where I could obtain sponsorships for it. ?
Thx

Hello Zazigi,
Yes that is what I was asking for. Maybe we can meet near Lake Baikal and ride together to Poland. I am still looking for someone to ride with from Vladivostok heading West.

Hello Marian,
Anything new on your plans?

Lance

Vladivostok to London

dear all, finally it looks like I will fly out to Vladivostok/Magadan and start my journey there mid June, planning to arrive in London end of Aug.
Right now considering 2 options:
1. Russia, Monglolia, Kazachstan, Uzb, Turk, Iran, Turkey then into 'Europe' (this looks more attractive to me)
2. Russia, Mongolia, Kazachstan, Russia, Ukraine then into 'Europe'.

Any suggestions? Is Korea worth visiting?
I have been saving some money, so I plan to organise building an orphanage in Ulaanbaatar and also collect some sponsor money for that. Will also do a documentary from the trip, so gyus with a camera-eye are more than welcome :-) As I already mentioned, I speak Russian.

Lance (maroonga) - as it looks, we might be on a similar journey. I would actually not mind starting the trip on the west coast (SF or Vancouver). Have good friends in Alaska, so it would be fun guaranteed :-)

Greg (zazigi) - what are your timelines?

Any comments / questions - please email me at mgazdik@gmail.com (mgazdikatgmaildotcom) - Marian

PS: I have met a girl in Prague and dated her for a year - she is teaching English at a university in Irkutsk (Baikal lake). She was the most beautiful girl I have ever dated.

london vlad/magadan

I,ve been researching the same trip just lately. To get to vlad is fairly easy,as long as it doesn,t rain as part of the road is dirt.
If you lgo to,poorcirculation.blogspot.com 2 riders made it through there this summer on triumph tigers, and the russians import all sorts of cars from japan to vlad. and drive them to moscow To get to magadan is a bit more of a problem, there is a new road being built around the "road of bones" but i,m not sure if all the river crossings are passable on a bike.
The"road of bones" is passable,as far as i can make out as long as all the rivers are low ,nearly all the bridges are down, perhaps you could check on google earth for latest info.Unless you are lucky enough to have a kamaz truck following you.
I.m not sure how you would get out of magadan either, vlad seems"fairly" simple.
I,m actually going with discoverymototours from ulanbator -magadan, i know its a cop out, but i have a family and busines here and i,m afraid divorce and bankrupcy aren,t very nice!!!!!
Only prob. so far is i can,t get a flight out of magadan.?
I really hope it works out for you,i think it will also take longer than you expect.Theres an awful lot to see on the way.
good luck
terry.
