Buggy Trip

Hello all, just a quickie before I go to work, does anyone fancy a trip in a couple of these, down to Africa or anywhere really ? it's a 500cc buggy called an ' oxobike ' also known as a ' quadzilla RL500 ' check them out, they look like a lot of fun, split the cost's between the 2 driver's then sell on return or whatever you prefer, 3 or 4 of these could probably be purchased at a reduced rate. look forward to some replies, regards, john

Hi John,

I am in the process of planning an overland from Yorkshire to Mongolia on a Quad.......I am looking at the Quadzilla RS7 or an Outlander 650 Max never thought of going on a buggy......

Hello Carole, I've been across Mongolia on a bicycle & an XT600, it's great fun as you can go pretty much where you like, only your common sense & respect for the environment will create boundaries. Check the web site Noboundaries.de & www.etribes.com/markstowe to see some picture's. My trip ideas include such location's as Mongolia, Kazakstan, Russia as they are not as daunting as you may think & could be part of a round trip not needing any freight issues. Keep in touch, maybe I can help you in some small way ? regards, john

Hello to you all, I have had the desire to explore the wonderful terrain of Iceland for a number of years now, I plan to do it in my new toy-the buggy.Having done 2 RTW trips, 1 by bicycle the 2nd on an XT600 I feel I have a little experience now. My buggy as the name suggests is only small, but as we all know ' size is'nt everything ' it will be modified by myself & as a result will enable me to offer the following assistance... I can carry heavy & bulky items, ie, tyres, chains, tools etc, thus negating the need for you to convert your nimble enduro bike in to a beast of burden, I know only too well how my XT felt with all the above stowed on board !& how the rear shock suffered. This is just an idea subject to the response, I would plan for a trip next year for obvious reasons. This might interest ladies or riders of smaller bikes. Iceland is'nt my only intended destination but I have another very big expedition in the pipeline therefore limited time and budget.Please let me know what you think of my idea. Regards, John

John, how's your French? I just thought that if it's vaguely OK (or Google translate?) there's a French forum for the various buggies which might be worthwhile having a look at. You're thinking of one of these?



which isn't actually an Oxobike, they're made in two different factories and there's a long and boring history, which I really won't go into. Anyway it's just a thought as there's a bunch of owners there who could give some advice on tweaks and tuning and what's gone wrong on theirs, if you're interested I'll dig out the addie for it. I'm on there too so could do some translation if you need it.

Personally I'm drawn towards either the BR500i or the Alp Saiting 800



Which has a 3-cylinder Suzuki engine, and probably the best fuel economy, oh and they're very keen on adventure/rallye-raid use.

Hello Alex, yes indeed the above buggy looks the dogs danglies so much so ' Ive bought one ! it was on ebay, I'll let you know how it goes when I've had the time to test it. I hope you're correct when you say it has a suzuki engine as I have done some pretty extensive research & not seen mention of suzuki,fingers crossed, a japanese engine would be very reasuring, the other buggy' the 500cc single cylinder 'pit bug' has a Chinese engine although it seems to be very robust, it's the same as the quadzilla unit which has good reviews. I will be driving it home tommorrow which should be fun. Speak to you soon, we should meet up for some green laning in France as it's almost impossible to persue such un-environmentaly friendly pass times in the UK these days ! dont get me wrong, I'm a tree hugger to, it's such a shame that idiot's desroy the tracks with no regard & prevent genuine poeple from the plesure of laning. Hmm, now I can't find where I read about the engine either, maybe I imagined it, or maybe it's a copy? But I'm sure I saw it was at least a licenced copy. I will go to the French forum where the creator/importer chats and ask him.

Anyway hope you enjoy it, I'm a bit jealous.

Edit: HERE it is, in French, but you can always use Google Translate. Three cylinder Suzi designed engine built under licence with Bosch multipoint fuel injection, but like all the other buggies restricted to 20hp only.

BUT Alp-Saiting in France do do a different ECU to derestrict it, but that doesn't make it strictly legal in the EU.

Thanks Alex, it's good news thats it's a suzuki lump, well sort of, having cycled through China I know how well they copy just about everything, I noticed in a shop window somehere in norther China a motorcycle called a ' yamasaki ' it was a perfect copy !, thanks again, catch you later, john

Lack of money, lack of info about the Oxobuggy and worrying reports of poor reliability, and a sudden interest in motorbikes happened to my trip, but one day, especially now the Alp-Saiting 800cc is out.

Have a glance at HERE, for a bit of inspiration, and maybe some ideas for how to pack, and if you look at Options > Alp Saiting 800cc HERE there's extra air filtration, and the 55hp ECU.

Hello Alex, thanks for the info, they do look good in action dont they !I drove my buggy home on monday & it only broke down 4 times !!!! I'm not going to give up that easily as I think the basic vehicle is solid & has potential. I have a lot of ideas as to improvements & trips I plan to do.I have'nt had any feedback from people wanting to go to Iceland yet, come on dont be shy ! Kind regards, john
