Southern Spain adventure

hello everybody, I have dreamed for a long time now of travelling on a bike and i am at at stage in my life/work/relationship/financial commitments where i may just quit my job and go.

For now whilst i save money I am bound by the limits of annual leave. I am looking forward to a short break in southern Spain.

I will be renting a yamaha xt660r for four days starting Tuesday 4th march and then just wondering around doing my own thing. I was hoping for advise on which roads to ride or even any light off road trails to try (i have never been off road and rental insurance only covers 'light' off roading).

I will be picking bike up from Torremolinos, if there are any members who live anywhere withing a hundred miles or so of here and would have any free time during those dates it would be great to meet up and you could show me the best rides your beautiful country has to offer. Any advise or help appreciated. Also any advise on places to stray would be appreciated. I am planning on visiting Ronda and el chorro/ ardales lakes. I have not planned this too much, just turn up get bike and just go.

Hi nDyimi.....
For fantastic biking roads you are going to the right place!!!!
I stay in the area you will be visiting, but unfortunately won't be around at that time.
If you are visiting Ardales, take a ride to El Burgo which is a half hour ride.
It's a really nice twisty road, and there are stunning views.
From El Burgo you have the choice to take 3 fantastic biking roads

1. El Burgo - Serrato
2. El Burgo - Alozaina
3. El Burgo - Ronda

From Ronda you can visit Grazalema, Zahara, Ubrique and El Bosque
You will be in motorbike heaven i promise.....

Have a great trip.

Dave.

Hi

Have a look on the ABR forum and contact 'the Spanish biker' he is a mine of information on Spain and a really nice and helpful guy to boot.

He organises 2 off road sojourns (HISS) a year. My wife and I went on the Aragon HISS last year and it was brilliant.

We did a 3000 mile round tour of Spain - there is so many nice roads/places.

Have a great time. :scooter:

thanks for all the advise

I gotta say those 4 days that I had the bike were the best riding days of my life. The roads I found were brilliant.

El Burgo to Alozaina was brilliant.

Alozaina to Coin brilliant.

El burgo to ronda was amazing.

However the best paved road i found in this region was from el burgo to ronda but it was a different road i found on the last day when i rode into the centre of el burgo in search of something to eat, a road caught my eye and I am glad I went down it, it was a smaller road that went on for roughly 18km and i was in motorbike heaven, never saw another car each way.

The highlight of this road though was the dirt track that i found leading into the forrest that I found half way through. That was exactly what I was looking for. Some light offroading. It was amazing. I spent hours there enjoying the 4km (ish) of dirt paths with spectaclar views and amazing forrest trails.

Overall I am very happy with my first overseas bike trip.
