southern Mexico/Belize in early February

I'm contemplating heading down to Belize city in early February passing through either the central or eastern part of Mexico, depending upon interest, new information, etc. I have to be in Belize City on the 10th for about 2 weeks of work and then may continue down to Nicaragua or Costa Rica. If anyone is heading that way at about that time, let me know as I think two or more is a definite safety advantage. I speak fluent Spanish and have traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America but never by motorcycle. I'll be taking my 1150GS and leaving from northern Colorado.

coming together

It's looking more and more like this trip is going to come together. Anyone else going that way, crossing around the 5th? I'm still very flexible on a border crossing from Columbus east and heading down through the center or eastern side.

Hi Larry. We're a few weeks ahead of you, but just to let you know so far Guatemala has been great...well except for the weather. Claudia and i just spent three nights in Flores to dry out, and we're cancelling out trip to Belize and heading back south to ElSalvador and Honduras. Guatemala feels safe, i would not worry too much, just use your basic precautions and all will be fine.

Dan, Tom and Ron,

Thanks for the correspondence. I am hoping to head from Colorado to Texas by truck (way too much snow and ice here in Colorado and NM to do the whole thing on the bike), dump the trailer and truck at my brother's and then cross at Matamoros and head down the east coast, mostly on 180. I'm figuring about 3 days to Belize city. On the way back I should have more time for side trips. At this point it looks like I'll be riding solo.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
