Southeast Asia later in year or early '10

Planning on shipping bike to Singapore where we meet up with some guys from there, then up through Malaysia, into Thailand, Laos,Vietnam,Cambodia and back into Thailand and down back to Singapore.
About three to four weeks.
I will most likely be taking GS1200 as my wife will be pillion.
Anyone up for it ?????
Most likely early next year unless things move along quickly with the paperwork bumf. :stormy:.:palm::funmeteryes:

You'd probably be better shipping to Port Klang in Malaysia, make sure you have your Carnet for this. Also, I don't believe you can take a foreign registered bike into Vietnam, could be wrong though.

I'm looking to do a similar trip in 2010 and would love to join you :D but not sure when, money etc.:( If you could let me have more details as and when you know them, it might happen. I'd be on a R1100gs and trying not to fall off like the last trip I done

Travellers seeking travellers

Hi Mike, Thanks for the info, i will check it out.
Did Vietnam from Thailand back in 03...they didn't bother to look at my carnet going in or coming out. Suppose these things don't usually happen twice ! .:confused1:

Hi Pete,
I am in the process of sorting all costs and paperwork etc., in between my day boring-as-hell job..
Found a good company to take care of the shipping..Cutler Freight in Kent.
Will keep you posted as and when. :thumbup1:

Hi timktm,

Where abouts are you shipping your bike from?

I may be heading in the same direction in early 2010. Ultimitly I need to be in Russia latter in the year. But Ive heard autonomous motorbike travel in China is not possible/allowed/too expensive (car is ok). If so this would be a deal breaker :(

Are you really only going for 3 to 4 weeks?
do you think you will have enough time to go through all those countries?

timktm 27 Mar 2009 14:35

Hi Guys,, Shipping bike from Kent via Cutler Freight... they do Singapore and Malaysia regularly.
Actually, i am considering Malaysia as a start point if the paperwork in Singapore is too prohibitive. It's just that we have met some bikers from there who we were going to ride up with.
The four week time frame will be ok if all goes ok, but we can be flexible for another week or so.
Please stay in touch if anyone interested... Tim.:scooter:

My thinking, too. I spent a lot more than this in the region, so much to see means some tight planning methinks! Awesome region... enjoy!

We still on for this? Any dates yet etc?

3 or 4 weeks is not long but its all the time I can take.

I'd dead keen on this, I'd have 4 months available. Maybe ride back to Europe.. Love to hear from anyone else interested. I'd be free anytime after Dec 31, cos thats when I'm quitting my job !!!

im interested, what are the shipping costs likely to be?

ive been to SE-Asia about 6-7 times and ridden rental bikes around there several times. Hanoi - Sapa is an amazing ride. this is where the best scenery is. the laotion border is very close to sapa but im not sure if you can cross over even with local, let alone foreign bikes. very much worth looking into.

northern thailand's mae hong son loop is also great, great roads and very easy riding.

Costs

I'd appreciate any advice on costs also. Anyone got accurate prices ? I'm preparing my bike now, slowly.. I'm nearly ready to start on the paperwork. Again any help or advice would be great. Stef ,I know some of these roads too, I lived in Asia for a while.
