South from San Diego in '13

Hi everyone - I'm Jo. I'm Yet Another early planner. Actually there's not much planning at this point, mostly beer and dreaming. The only plan that exists right now is to take a ~6 month leave of absence from work in fall of next year, put stuff in storage and head south. The trip will be on a small(ish) bike, 250cc-450cc. I'm looking for a traveling partner in crime. I'm not a retired offroad racer and I'm not track brat :cool4: I will ride anything and everything in between though. So that is the very short and sweet of it. If you think this could be fun and something you have the ability to commit to, let's talk!

Hi,
I am planning to ride the full Trans Am next year and expecting to be in your fantastic city by late August. I will (at this stage) be riding a Triumph Tiger 800xc and hope to finish the whole trip and be home by Christmas 2013. At this stage I am flexible with the route and, as this will be my first bike trip outside of the comfort of Europe & Scandinavia, would prefer to travel with someone. I am giving up my job to do this but, if I dont get home for Christmes, I will also be single and homeless.....she tells me !

Cool Dave. The TransAm runs across the States though, I'm planning on getting out of the States and heading south as far as I can get (Central/South America) while still returning to San Diego within a 6 month time frame :mchappy:

Give me a holler when you get here though, I'd be happy to show you some good riding and good drinking  Where are you from?

Jo,
From the Uk. Did't realise that was not on my profile but have now updated it. I have been to San Diego twice (but not on a bike) meeting very distant relations. Last time was 1997. Loved the place ie. Old Town & ..Casa Del Mundo ? I will be taking my time trough Canada & the US as want to see as much as I can while the funds allow. Where are you planning on travelling to ?

Hey Jo,
I'll be making the trek south in the fall next year too. Leaving Edmonton September 1 and crossing into Baja probably the 6th or 7th at Tecate. I plan on taking a full 6 months to get to Ushuaia. It sounds like you'll be on a faster pace than me but I wouldn't mind having company part of the way. I'm estimating about three weeks in Mexico.

Dave: sounds like a good plan, and should be a fun ride. I was actually born and raised in the south of Sweden and still have all of my family over there. I've lived in the States for the past 15 years and some change. Did you watch Zlatan Ibrahimovic kick England's butt the other night? ( sorry, I couldn't resist! :rolleyes2:) bier

Awesome, that could potentially work. I have no places I need to be at any specific times and I will be going pretty slow too, so no matter how far or how short I make it in my 6 months, I'm cool with that :cool4: A wild guess is that I'll tool around a lot in Central America with a jaunt over to northern South America as a maybe. Chances are pretty good I'll be on my CRF250L so going fast is out of the question either which way beer

I was doing some reading earlier this evening about the HU yearly events, and I *MAY* try to go to the California meetup before taking off. That would put my start date a little later than yours (I think the California meetup is usually around mid-Oct or thereabouts). But that's all a bit of speculation on my part at this point.
