South America October 08

A the moment there are two of us heading south from Seattle at the start of October. I want to take a 6 month ride around SA, whereas Tom wants to ride to TDF and ship back.

Anyone else want to join in, for some or all?

It would be a bonus if you could speak Spanish. I'm starting lessons but will be limited to basics even if I do master any.

There are a few quirks to the trip...I'm a Brit and Tom's American. I've decided to only drink tea for the whole trip and will be filming most of the tea encounters.

A GSA 1150 and A GS 650.

You really are a Brit!

Yes, Spanish would be a MUST! Don't stop studying even all the way along the trip. The tea thing sounds good because most likely the water will be boiled, but you can be pretty safe with anything bottled (in its ORIGINAL bottle, not some fuzzy looking mixture in a coke bottle with a cork!):funmeterno:

I have lived 3 years in southern Mexico and 25 years in Peru. Would love to help you out with any questions. Made a recent short 10,000 km trip Around the Block 2007 | with my young son in central SA so I have also recently been in Brazil and Bolivia.

There's ALOT of info on these blogs and attached websites. Look up Xflitrate, Ted Magnum, Simon (both), and journeyrider. SYUDY, STUDY, STUDY! :confused1: That will help you even more than your Spanish. ASK QUESTIONS, don't be shy. There is a wealth of info out there and 99% good folk. You are in good hands here at HUBB, :thumbup1:don't rely on other upstart blog pages...:nono:

Hope this helps, Toby (charapa)

There's an awful lot of coffee in Brazil...it's a lyric I recall from a song somewhere in my memory.

Tea...the first cup is politeness
The second cup is understanding
The third cup is friendship

This is the three cups tour, stop me and I'll make you 3 cups of tea, in exchange for your conversation. I'll try local teas, mattes and anything hot and leaf/twig/undergrowth based, but not coffee. I plan to carry a china tea set and if possible visit the Falkland Islands for some British char in a mug.

I'll certainly be looking around the Hubb, listening and repeating the spanish ipodcasts and taking classes.

Any help is always welcome in exchange for a cuppa of course, fairs fair.
