South Africa to ????

Flying into S Africa at the end of March 07 after riding South America. On flexible schedule and looking to ride the southern countries or head north across Africa if I end up in the right company. Looking for anyone adventurous and ready to ride. Need to get a bike when I land also if anyone has any recommendations in the economical realm.

Hi there!
I will be flying to SA with the bikes from UK beginning March, work on them for a few weeks before my wife joins me and then we are heading up the east coast...see our blogg for the planned route. Won't be going all the way up...doing a loop to end up back in Capetwon where we are going to settle for a while.

Secondhand bikes in SA seem to be quite expensive. You can look on http://www.autotrader.co.za/BIKES/bikes.jsp for an idea of prices. I don't think advertising online is as big in SA as it is in US or UK though so might get loads more better deals once in the country and getting more local knowledge.

Also depending on where you will be in SA, you could send an email to the HU community for that area, I sent an email to the Johanessburg community and got a quick responce so will prob hook up with them while I am there working on the bikes.

South Africa Biker Mag info

The one and only best biker magazine for all south africa is called BikeSA. It is monthly. You can place free classified (smalls) ads in it - by email only. Include a photo for small fee. See website: http://www.bikesa.biz/index.php?opti...tpage&Itemid=1
Hope this helps. Swazimoto

You can also just go to the Bikersa forum here and register for free and chat with and ask questions of local RSA riders.

http://bikesa.biz/forum/index.php

And the number one website and forum for SA adventure bike riders is here:

www.wilddogtours.co.za

They are the best source of information for all the adventure routes in RSA and surrounding countries.
Great bunch of guys and gals.
Check out their ride reports, awesome stories and photos.
I'll be in RSA riding around for a month or so in April/May if anyone wants to meet up.
I'm planning to ride RSA, Lesotho, Namibia and probably Botswana.

Cheers: Jaq.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
